I think it's easy to sit on here and say keep 5 strikers on the books, but in reality footballers want to play football. You've got 5 players there who all want to play every week and it's just not realistic they will get to, even with rotation, you generally only stick 2 strikers on the bench so one is going to miss out all-together. Bowery and Reid have been brought in so you'd think they would get a chance plus Rose and Maynard played most games last season so Cook looks the favourite to miss out this season.

No matter what it counts for in the FFP Cook will still be a high earner we're paying every month. If he's not going to be a big player and big part of the squad DS may not want to fork out that much for a backup striker, and likely Cook won't want to waste a season being bit-part where he can be the main man somewhere else.

Comes to something when a Giant club like Barrow are trying to prize away our best possible striker . :)

He used to play for them and was a fan's favourite.

Selling Cook makes more sense than the selling of CJ for what was rumoured to be a similar fee.

Selling CJ was sensible, he'd have left for nothing later, he wasn't going sign a new contract.

Maybe depends how hard we tried to keep him I guess. Agree the club should not stand in a players way especially if they are bettering themselves or the money involved is too significant to say no.

My point was more to do with the fee being suggested for Cooke and CJ.

If and it’s a big If the amounts are correct I would not hesitate to sell Cooke, however I would have wanted a better return for CJ and someone with his ability and potential

The problem with CJ is we sold a midfielder and they bought a forward! The price for us was good for a midfielder. As a forward he was easily worth a million.

It's all in the sell on fee. If CJ reaches the consistency required at that level (something he failed to do here) and Pool sell him for 4 million then we're well happy imo

CJ when played up top or advanced was very good imo. Could never understand why we didn't convert him...a striker with blistering pace that can finish (CJ was better at finishing than the rest of the frontline) could easily demand a million - championship teams throw 1, 2, 3 million around on speculative buys all the time.

Good luck to the lad, with the right coaching he could go far, saw his goal v Liverpool and it was taken very well. He'll score a fair few in L1 this season

Nobody was paying us a million after watching him last season, he forgot how to kick a ball.

Hopefully but I don’t think we have benefitted from sell ons that much in the past. Sometimes it can be 2/3 moves away before they get that big fee if at all.

Clucas for example, not sure what we made on his transfers but considering the fees paid for him since leaving Mansfield not that much I would guess

CJ was massively frustrating agreed but I don’t think him constantly being switched into different positions helped his game.

Play him wide right or left and I think he could go on and be a million pound + player

Good luck to him

We made a few hundred thousand on Clucas eventually, not a bad return all considering.

Martin Riley has joined Stourbridge in the Southern Premier Central (catching up with my NLPs). Same division as Linden Meikle at Tamworth.

Yes that’s why we played their U23’s.

Now that Will Tomlinson has left, we need to follow Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' advice and get "going to ogogo" :getmecoat:

Tomlinson was pretty much a very poor player even by our standards so him going doesn’t really make a difference imo. Surely we have someone nearing the first team set up that’s about the same?

Alastair Smith, who hasn't looked good enough when I've seen him play but I'm willing to give him another chance. fresh season n all that

Sinclair is above Smith in the pecking order in my opinion. Think a loan would be the best option for Smith, can’t see him making the grade here personally.

Could do with one more senior player though in midfield. Perch is getting on a bit and won’t be able to play every game effectively, and Coughlan knows as much. Charsley is inexperienced, having only played around 10 competitive senior games. An injury/suspension to Clarke or Maris and we really will be struggling in that department. If we want to be successful that little extra depth is crucial. When you play a midfield 3, having only 3 options who have real experience seems light to me particularly when games are going to be so condensed this season with little recovery time.

Tomlinson was not a bad player, I think we can do better but he’s definitely good enough to do a job at this level, and he’s 22.

Right decision to get rid though.

It’s glaringly obvious that we need a quality midfielder or we will get overrun in midfield as per last season.

we haven't seen anything of O.Clarke yet, he should be an improvement from last season but I agree we need someone else as well...Maris, Charsley ect all look tidy but cant see them dictating games or stopping opposition playing straight through us
