R I P Norman Hunter

Sad news about a great defender who provided one of my funniest moments watching a match live at the Baseball Ground when he and Franny Lee got sent off and continued to scrap it out going off the field and down the tunnel.
Hard man was Norman but a good guy. R I P

How many Stags fans can remember Norman Hunter playing against the Stags in the 5th Round of the FA Cup at Elland Road in 1970?

Yeah I do We got a minibus up there and finished up amongst a load of Leeds supporters who were mostly uncomplimentary about a resolute Stags performance.
When the first goal went in they were saying ‘Well it had to come “

1970 was before my time around here but I was fortunate to go to the final at Wembley. Our next door neighbour was a Chelsea supporter and had somehow managed to get a ticket but was unable to go.

The replay at Old Trafford was a real battle. In yesterday's Telegraph Michael Oliver re-refereed the match on todays refereeing standards and he would have given 11 red cards including one for Hunter for throwing punches.

There was just 1 yellow card in the actual match for Hutchinson from Chelsea.

When football was a full bloodied man's game.. I remember as a young kid watching awe inspired by that incredible Leeds team with Hunter and Bremner,
Imagine some of these pussies in the Premier league today having to face the likes of Norman Hunter.. They would be rolling around on the floor crying like babies.

6 of us travelled to Elland Road in a moggy 1000 and I don't think we managed more than about 55mph.

We were definitely robbed by a short sighted ref who had never seen Dudley jump before.

Is there any evidence that Ramos is Jewish?

Here are a few more comments from Stags fans on Facebook about the Leeds United FA Cup game in 1970

Terry Brown - "We were robbed that day... and our bus had its windows put through"

Christofs Strazds - "I was there, hitched it to the ground from M1. Stags end was full so had to go in their end. Dicey when we scored."

Pete Dawes - "I was at that game, great atmosphere, a star filled Leeds United team."

Stephen Haynes - "I was at that game, we were robbed it was a perfectly good goal, shame there wasn’t VAR"

Dave Caldwell posted this on Twitter: "I remember playing for Mansfield v Barnsley in a reserve game. Norman Hunter was manager and decided to play himself. After scoring and while I was celebrating he hit me like a bus with a shoulder charge. Mick McCartney was the other centre half."

I remember the Stags being hammered 4-1 at home by Barnsley in April 1980. Kevin Bird scored for the Stags. Barnsley finished 11th and the Stags finished 23rd and were relegated. I think Ronnie Glavin was in that Barnsley team. Allan Clarke was the Player Manager. Did Norman Hunter play?

Is this the game Dave Caldwell was thinking about?
