Watching the videos of the Stags playing and beating, often comfortably the likes of Cardiff, Swansea, Hull, Fulham etc just shows what Haslam had, never built upon and ultimately nearly put to the sword.

This club could have been one of those sides......

On the plus side at least Haslam, through lack of investment never got to rob us of Premier League gold.

What a save! Kevin Hitchcock saves at Oxford in the League Cup in September 1987. The game finished 1-1

Martin,
Have we got any videos of Hitchcock taking goal kicks and the ball ending up in the West Stand? There must be hundreds
Still my favourite keeper though.

The greatest save I have seen live was by Hitchcock. It was a night game and I was in the North Stand and he sprang up and tipped over a blistering shot from just outside the box. It may have been a free kick I can’t remember. Long shot but Martin do you (or anyone else) remember this?

Me neither, but best save for me was from Sir Rod, in the QLE, versus Sheff Wed, probably late 70's with a huge crowd. I was in the Bishop and can remember seeing the Owls fans celebrate only for Rod to tip it over the bar. Now I was only a kid, but it has stuck with me all my life. Also I remember a stunning save from Pilko, arching back to tip the ball over the bar - can't remember the game but I think it was a big one. Ian Bowling, often wrongly criticised and twice our player of the year, also made some incredible saves. We've had some great keeper, we have also had some not quite so good.

For me the best save I’ve seen at the mill was Brian Cox against Brian Deane of Sheffield United. Cox was on the floor and kept out a Deane header from close range. I think it was early 90s. Incredible save or double save. I hope someone else remembers it. It was all the better for me being right behind the goal in the north stand. I think my teenage eyes didn’t let me down!!!

I remember that Rod Arnold save against Sheff Wed - It was the best save I have ever seen. It was at the Quarry Lane end. I was sat in the West Stand. It looked a certain goal, destined for the top left corner. The Wednesday supporters behind the goal had already started celebrating. It was an instinctive save and Rod arched back and sprung high to get a hand to the ball to keep it out.
The 2nd best save I saw was a couple of years later by Steve Sutton on loan from Forest. Can't remember the opposition (possibly Fulham or Orient?). I was standing in the North Stand right behind the goal - a shot through a crowded area was heading for the right corner, Sutton rooted to the line, somehow got a hand to it.
