Games postponed until April 3rd. Who are they trying to kid ?

Given we are meant to be four weeks behind Italy the situation will be worse after April 3rd than it is now.

I think they are trying to soften the blow. They know this season is over.

I'm not saying it's wrong to write the season off. The health of the national is the optimum consideration.

I just wish they wouldn't give us false hope.

Season cancelled.
No promotion/relegation.
No transfer windows next season.
1 year on every players contract.

Now wash your hands & sing Happy Birthday x

They cant extend the season, because players contracts will have ended then. I'm not sure what the solution is, although one thing I heard is that next season will be shorter, no cup games apart from FA Cup one off games, home or away games in the league, instead of home and away, etc. etc. Thing is, this is going to take some clubs to the wall, less games next season will do the same.
I understand why the decision has been taken, but in 3 weeks, it will be the same sitaution, or even worse, and then they're going to lock us down, and everyone is happy with that? If this was brought about because a couple of players have the virus, why shut down the efl? As has been said, people will just go to other places, be it pubs, shopping centres, so it wont stop the spread at all.

I guess they have options.

Sat-Tues-thurs-Sat games until the season is complete.

Extend the season until the end of May and cancel the play off and ony have the top 4 go up (change for rest of the leagues.

Finalise the table based on the reverse fixture result.

End the season as it is now.

Just cancel this season, render it null and void, and go back to last season. Thinking about it, would this not technically save Bury?

Not stating the footy shouldn't be off - just seems odd that they're still on

Games are not off because of the spectators. They are off because of players and staff with Coronavirus

https://www.efl.com/news/2020/march/efl-statement-coronavirus-update3/

This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of Clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus.

But no-one at Mansfield has coronavirus - so on that basis we shouldn't be off.

I'm pretty confident the EFL will have cancelled the games with stopping fan travel in mind also.

The intention was to play games behind closed doors at some point. Now players and staff are infected or being isolated at various clubs, and that is what escalated in the last 24 hours

Hahaaa. You're institutionalised mate. You've been in govt too long and lost the ability of independent thought. Your 2* General has grinded it out of you. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... save-lives a lot of health professionals agree our strategies to contain are not agressive enough and should align with our European neighbours.

But that escalation did not affect the efl as far as we know, I still think a week of behind closed door games might have helped us see where we are.

I'd suggest only promote teams in the automatic promotion places. Cancel the playoffs, therefore only relegate the bottom 2 from the premier League, and so on and so on.

Certainly won't please everybody.

Cancelling the games is the correct decision.sport and public gatherings have to take a back seat.

Will some of the players be out of contact before all the games are played with this delay.

If the season is abandoned are teams still promoted and relegated on the current league standings, and what happens to teams in the playoffs.

Professional players contracts run out on the 30th June, generally. They just take their annual leave in one block towards the end of May. So whilst they are under contract, the annual leave rules mean they should get the 5.6 weeks they are legally entitled to.

I can't say for certain whether players can book days off from training which lowers this amount at the end of the season but I doubt it except for extenuating circumstances.
