So next season would be ruined as well.

They just need to accept that this season is over and write it off. I can't see why any club without anything to play for (and that is the majority) would want to go to the lengths necessary to finish this year. What is so difficult to understand that we won't be going anywhere for months.

They will try not to do that because 1 season in the Premier League, even if a club finished rock bottom is worth £100m.
While the finacial rewards are less as you drop down the pyramid cash is still king in football.
Two disrupted seasons will negate the undoubted legal challenges that are going to come in from teams in with a shout of promotion or Euro places if the season is written off. Plus there is no guarentee that next season won't be disrupted even if this one is written off.
They'll have to come up with some football equivalent of the Duckworth Lewis method.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

So once more the majority of football has to suffer for the selfish few.

It wouldn't do any harm for European competition to miss a year and let the grass roots recover which would also help the recovery of mankind.

With the news tonight the U.K. is in lockdown for another 6 months or so next season will be delayed that’s if it takes place at all.

All the arguments over promotions is irrelevant.

The UK is not in lockdown for the next 6 months. Jenny Harries said at today's press conference things won't be back to normal for 3-6 months. One of the journalists asking questions attempted to quote back to her that "bla bla if the UK is in lockdown for the next 6 months bla bla", and she immediately clarified she absolutely did not say that. Journalism at its poorest. The journalist was from the Daily Express.

Correct Martin but I can’t see the Government allowing sports fixtures with close contact taking place in the next 3 months. Lockdown or not, some form of social distancing is going to carry on for quite some time, maybe July before we could start again and then maybe behind closed doors.

My personal view is either this season is over or Instead we could look at a more creative option for next season.

For example (and just ideas before I get shot down): start later and get rid of some or all of the league cup, the leasing.com thing, the Europa cup (or strip it back) and international friendlies. So just have the league and FA cup and maybe Champions league.

Or if we have even less time have one season where we don’t play every game home and away in the lower leagues.

Maybe have 30 random generated fixtures where we play at least each side once and then only a smaller number of sides twice. Everyone plays an equal number of home and away games.

I agree, I don't think we are going to have any sport in the next 3 months.

Think it's more likely that next season will be cancelled.
We can then finish this season and all cup games after Xmas.
They could even do the euros around April next year.
This season has to be finished first.

Unless we are still locked down in the Autumn (...) I’d be surprised if that happened. Clubs would lose all of their season ticket revenue until the 2021/2022 season (which would probably finish a number of them off) and there’s not the volume of games left this season, most of which the fans have already paid for so that’s only marginal revenue for clubs. Fans would also cancel their TV subscriptions as they aren’t going to pay X quid a month to watch their team for the next 9 months if the season is over for them.

Who knows but more likely in my view that they will get rid of this season or run a short season next year.

I also find it a bit odd when people say that this season has to be finished first.

I would like to see it finished for the sake of all those teams that have done well, but if it’s a choice being having this season finished, and then no season at all next year, or get rid of this season then I think the vast majority of people would go with having next year’s season played. We are all going to want to go to football if we can.

To be fair to the Chad they did set up a live video link so they could ask the medical officer a question , but by the time she had downloaded the link , the 10 o clock news was on .

If they can find a way of finishing this season by august (I appreciate we’re all guessing here) then if next season started in October they could get away with it.

They’d just need to bin off the league cup and that stupid unofficial cup that no-one cares about and you’d have half a chance.

Either way, someone somewhere is going to have to make a ridiculously tough call

Unless things get dramatically worse I cannot see season 19/20 being cancelled, there is too much at stake financially. A lo g delay in completing the season, maybe not until September or later followed by a 2020/21 season curtailed in some way.
Maybe 30 games, fixtures drawn up by, drawing out of a hat etc, 15 home games, 15 away, luck of the drawer.

You’re right, this season will be finished one way or another. Clubs will not want to pay back TV money etc and TV companies will want their money’s worth too. Neville said you could play the remaining games within 3 weeks if really necessary as it’s the same for all clubs. Then start the next season almost immediately after.

Complete this season when possible.Instead of having a 2 month break just have 1 month .Cancel the league cup or revamp it to be the reserve team cup ( which it basically is now anyway)they can give it a fancy name such as the development trophy , The clubs involved in European cups play 6 league games less than the other leagues so they could cope .Then have 1 month between seasons till we are back on track ,

I just can't see any games being played before Xmas at the moment.
There is so much to organise regards players contracts after June etc.. Getting players back to match fitness too.
I'm also not sure how many clubs will be left to carry on another season without time and money to restart.

And that is exactly why this season should be written off. Not only would it be unfair on the relegated clubs to try and complete it giving a skewed final table, but clubs will need revenue.

Fans will not return to clubs who have nothing to play for and crowds will be vital to generate revenue. By starting the season anew, clubs can sell season tickets (adjusted for the loss of this year's home games) and also get the pay on the day fans in. Clubs simply will not be able to afford to play 10ish games with little revenue return, scrap the season and save the clubs.

Was listening to a guy from Chicago on tv who was in the financial markets, a money man.

He was saying that we should have just let the virus rip and get over with it in a short time.

He was actually saying business of 99% of the population was more important than 1% of deaths.

Can you believe it?

I can absolutely believe it, what's 70-80 million dead compared to the mighty $ to these shitheads.

If you are in a job which is insecure, you'd be forgiven for wanting the nation to get back to work so you can protect your family's interests - and there are millions of people in that situation.

Health Vs wealth isn't new unfortunately. The wealth of the 'west' is often put before the health of emerging nations. The virus just brings it closer to home.

It's a horrible situation. Prey for a vaccine.
