Today’s referee

Postby EdwinstoweStag » Sat Feb 15, 2020 6:30 pm

IMO, the worst we’ve had this season, and that takes some doing.

He was guilty of stopping play when he could have allowed advantage (both sides). He obviously loved “uncontested” drop-balls as a solution for his bizarre decisions.

His booking of Danny Rose for entering the field after touchline treatment was absolute pedantry, especially when he allowed Newport to treat one of their players on the pitch for ages before getting him to walk the two yards to the touchline.

I know the conditions were appalling, but he was never close enough to the action and many of his decisions smacked of “random”.

All true. He also lost control when the linesman flagged but he didn't stop play, then had to deal with the foul on Bishop.
Good thing we won and don't have to be frustrated by a crucial bad decision.

We never get good refs against Newport.

You may think it’s picky, but the referee is there to apply the laws of the game. That often involves interpretation and opinion; the book says, “If in the opinion of the referee......”

But certain cautionable offences don’t require interpretation or opinion at all. One of those is entering (or leaving) the field of play without the referee’s permission. That may be a very minor infringement to earn a yellow card, but that is one of the laws of the game.

(You can of course with some justification claim he was not the best of referees who made some very odd decisions.)

The reg was poor all round, didn’t really favour either side .

Wouldn’t have him back anytime soon

Apart from Rose's booking, which seemed harsh, the one thing he did right today was keep his cards in his pocket especially early in the game when players were sliding in a bit. But he was mostly crap.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

Perhaps because we won, I thought he wasn’t too bad. He only put 5 minutes of added time on when I would have said it was a lot more.

Probably because he caused most of it with his needless bounce ups

Agree he was poor but we've had worse this season.

The standard of referring in this league is substandard for league football, but its the same every season.
