In contrast against Everton in the checkatrade he didn't touch the ball and was subbed at half time. And I'm not exaggerating when I said he didn't touch the ball.

Very true. Also he was played as a left winger instead of back. Also around 12 months after. Also you've got form to take into consideration, the Everton game was after horrible form, 1 win in 6. The 6 games before Scunthorpe we had won 3 and drew 3.
When in a rut you can't expect youth to bail you out. The pressure on such inexperienced players is too much at their stage of development.
