The lack of a box to box midfielder, the lack of a right midfielder, the limitation in our defence, the lack of any presence up front, all stood out for me today.

It was clear to see what the issue was

We needed to create and utilise the space of them having 10 men. Macca is a work horse, not a visionary.

Replace him with khan after 60mins and it would have been a different game.

The fact that Grimsby looked and indeed were the better side after going down to 10 men is a real concern. I only thank the Lord that Morecambe and Stevenage look slightly worse. A sobering look at the table shows Macc, with all their troubles AND a six point deduction will overtake us if they win games in hand. I'd hate to think where our spunkless crew would've been if they had Macc's scenario to contend with.

We need a proper leader on the pitch to try and get this bunch to have “Fire in their bellies “
Communication between each other was about zero !
Pearce or Preston couldn’t handle the attacker who started but was substituted and nor could they handle his replacement.
Bishop was bypassed by once again average midfielders who didn’t have to break sweat . Bishop’s legs have gone FGS.
Grimsby thoroughly deserved the victory for their commitment alone.
Their goalkeeper is what I call a good goalkeeper !

Macca is clearly one of GC favs and Khan clearly isn't..

Tbf, I'm sure Tranmere fans were saying the same each season plummeting deeper into the footballing abyss ;)

Over a fairly short period, we've transitioned from an attacking/passing style of play where fitness was paramount, to a clueless disjointed one of apathy, to more of a workmanlike attitude now (mostly). The hard work done last season was undone by a summer of lax fitness regimes and baffling tactics. It will take GC time to repair this and influence his own style, though I do agree apathy should be the 1st thing stamped out immediately.

Removal of a few bad apples & drafting in new faces should have a significant effect. Amazing how much motivation a player gets when a few P45'a are waved around ;)

Finally, we need to realise that season by season improvement is what counts, and that promotion will come as a result, but not before. Many teams spent several seasons chipping away at the playoffs, so we're nowt special on that. Sometimes a few failed attempts is enough to determine a managers skillset, but if each year we get closer then it's a surefire indication to stick with our hand and try again. Imo we failed on that last aspect and find ourselves adrift, trying to gain momentum, but with a relatively short fuse due to the last 6 months.

I believe most will give GC grace till end of season at least, but even if we reproduce lacklustre performances our frustrations mostly lie with what happened prior to his tenure.
If i look in pain it's because i'm thinking

Next three matches are Forest Green at home, Plymouth away and Bradford at home. To be honest, the most likely scenario is us losing all three of those games, and if we do we could well be in deep, DEEP trouble. Coughlan would have 1 win in 8 and the fans will be going absolutely mad. Can’t wait

The new manager and his staff now have a week on the training ground with the players. Hopefully that may make a difference.
