Jim Bentley leaving Morecambe for AFC Fylde

Postby Tippy Tappy Football » Sun Oct 27, 2019 10:08 pm

It looks like Jimbo who is the longest serving manager in the EFL is off to AFC Fylde. A few Stags fans have said to me in the past that he could have done a decent job at Field Mill as he has always had a very small playing budget and no money to spend.

Can’t blame him. Where can he realistically take Morecambe? He has more chance of achieving something at Fylde.

He’s never spent a transfer fee whilst at Morecambe, absolutely brilliant.

Good luck to him

I really rate Bentley as a manager but it’s not looking good for Morecambe this season so is he jumping before he’s pushed this time? I’m sure Morecambe would afford him more time but I think their situation is more desperate this year. It will be interesting to see who they can bring in as manager.

Fylde seem a better prospect for a manager. One of the promotion favourites near the bottom of the league, have a mini turnaround this year and push on next. They could well be playing Morecambe next season at current rate.

Bentley definitely has something, but wouldn't have lasted 5 mins here if he'd lost 2-3 on the spin as he's never had a promotion under his belt ;)

Interesting interview. The Morecambe owner voting on facebook for Bentley to be sacked was the final straw!

So who is longest serving manager now that Bentley has jumped ship?

Ainsworth was so close to be relegated to Conference as well and would have been if we had not beat Bristol Rovers on last day of season in 2014.

I'd have him at Mansfield without a doubt.

We'd be in the conference if we'd stuck with Dempster ;)

Correct. Knee jerk reaction to DF going, was never going to work out even before a ball was kicked.

The point is that we should maybe have stuck with Flitcroft.

She stated that she was overruled and I agree that she was right and the rest of the board were ridiculous in their knee jerk reaction.

Careful what you say as you will be accused of mourning the loss of your first love :)

You are spot on in what you say.

For me it wasn't specifically about DF, it was about having a manager who played football the right way, got us to the highest league position in years and as we've since found out was rated and trusted by the players.

That hasn't happened very often in the history of MTFC.

Johns remarks on flitcrofts sacking " you stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind you saying Do as you like,
So we did and sacked him.
