Can Stags finish in the TOP 3 / Updated to AVOID 24th ?

Postby KirkbyStag2 » Mon Sep 09, 2019 6:57 pm

I'm assuming 81 points will be enough for automatic promotion, TOP 3 finish.

Current Table
PLD.....W......D......L......PTS........PPG
7.........2......3......2........9.........1.29 (last season we had 10 points after 7 games)

Required for 81 points
PLD.....W......D......L......PTS.......PPG
39......24.....0......15......72........1.85
39......23.....3......13......72........1.85
39......22.....6......11......72........1.85
39......21.....9.......9.......72........1.85
39......20....12......7.......72........1.85
39......19....15......5.......72........1.85

Based on our current PPG 1.29, we would finish on 59 points, which based on last seasons final table equals 16th.

We can lose 13 more games and still go up.

So we are 1 point behind where we were this time last season, remarkable considering the hurdles that have been put in front of the Dempster and his team. Patience is a virtue, Demps will get it right.

I think this squad could, but they won't.

It's a thread question....it doesn't say positive answers only....bottom third for me ...anything that avoids the Conference under this manager is a bonus....

I don't think so. It's a big ask for an inexperienced manager.

If he learns from his mistakes, and gets a bit more luck, I think we’ve a fair shout at the play offs.

The teams that fire on all cylinders after Christmas are generally the most successful.

The players need to take a look in the mirror also, they’ve bottled it at least once, have THEY got the cahoonies?

Exactly. The players will get going soon. Demps has been so unlucky with the injuries. If we win our next 2, we'll probably be in the playoffs and everyone will shut up again.

Top 3 is very wishful thinking from what we've seen so far, disappointingly.

We've had a pretty easy start in fairness - so the points tally (along with the performances is a concern).

We're only 7 in and maybe the manager and formation might calm down - i'd be expecting us to finish somewhere between 10-14th

Until it gets having to win more than 2 in 3 to get into top three then we should stick with JD.

Top 3 is still perfectly achievable, but for JD to be the one to get us there I think he'll need to be bolder in his tactics and work to the strengths of players who are undoubtly capable of getting us promoted, rather than forcing them to play what at times appears be a rather dis-jointed, predictable and uninspiring brand of football. I'd also like to see substitutions that make a modicum of sense. These are all mistakes you might expect from an inexperienced manager, but with expectations so high will he get the time to learn on the job?

Trying hard to think we can do it but currently it looks like being a very average season but always hopeful but feel things just not quite right this season so far and Maynard being taken off and unhappy does not bode well for JD management.
