The free kick one is interesting. No attacker allowed within 1m of the wall, if its made of 3 or more defenders.

The handball one will be interesting. Maybe we can claim handball Everytime a chest height pass comes into the box.

The sub one seems sensible, but I can see the handball rule causing havoc

How long has this game of football been going ? Yet they still insist on tinkering with the rules. A case of power hungry little man syndrome ? Sometimes things are better left alone.

Substitutes taking far too long to leave the pitch is the clearest example of why there is a constant need to change the rules .

There is a post on the Wembley thread saying we need to smarten up on the cheating side of the game .i can see where the poster is coming from but would much rather the power hungry little man make changes to reduce simulation , taking one for the team , inviting a foul ,holding your head when no contact with either another player or the ground ,taking throw in from a different postcode to where the ball went out , holding shirts, walking away while being booked .

Whatever the rules are teams will manipulate them. It's tinkering around the edges. The problems you describe are real and annoying, but the only way they will be addressed is by stricter use of the excisiting rules by the referees.

The wall rule change is stupid and effectively penalising the team that were wronged in the first place. It’s entirely reasonable and fair to place your players wherever you decide to. If you want to block the view of defenders then you should.

A smart manager will place a player a metre in front of the wall. People seem to forget that if you have the free kick, you can’t encroach because you’re allowed to already.

"In order to clamp down on difficult behaviour from coaches who don't see eye to eye with the referee or their opposite number, officials will be able to show them yellow or red cards, in the same way they do with players.
If, in the event of a touchline melee for example, the offending individual cannot be identified for punishment, the senior coach who is in the technical area will be the default recipient."
Gillingham manager may have difficulty with this one.

I think the offending individual will be easily identified in the scenario you describe.

Do what you like with the rules but with officials of the standard we witness week in, week out, there’ll still be loads of naff decisions.

The only rule I'd like to see changed is the throw in rule. Divide the pitch into quarters, as denoted by similar markings that are used to denote the ten yards from corners, and the team taking the throw in can take it anywhere in the quarter it went out. It will stop players pinching yards controversially and will encourage more attacking football when a player can charge down the touchline for 25 yards before taking it.

That would be interesting Bellwhiff. Place your own attacking wall 1M in front of the defensive wall. That would be hilarious to see!!!

I'd like to see the reintroduction of the two footed lunge from behind, protection for goalkeepers removed, muddy pitches, baggy shorts, manly handshakes for goal celebrations and players that still enjoy a bowl of rough orange at half time.

The rule that needs amending for me is the one where an injured player cant return to play until the referee signals it so.

I understand the basis of this but in a situation where you are attacking and your star striker/ free kick taker is scythed down just outside the area and is then forced to leave the pitch after treatment. How is that fair that the offending defending side can have 11 players on the field and you the injured party are not only down to 10 but your most dynamic player cant take the free kick!!

They should at least make the penalised player leave the field too until the injured one can return.....

But of course then you will have simulation to maybe get the best defender off the field for 30 seconds aaaaarrrrggghhh

No substitutions after 75/80 minutes (except if goalkeeper injured).

Free kicks for deliberate time wasting in the corner.

Goal kicks to be taken on the side the ball went out within 10 seconds of the keeper picking up the ball.

Play 30/35 minute halfs but stop the clock when the ball is not in play.

So if you're winning and genuinely have two players injured and are carried off you have to play the last 10/15 mins with 9 men?

Yes, that always seems a bizarre rule. Perhaps at least refs should be told to hold up play until the injured player is back in position, unless they judge it to be an excessively long delay. At the moment, the victim's team is penalised for him being injured.

Yes. How many times have you seen two players injured in the last 10/15 minutes of the game? How many pointless time wasting substitutions have you seen in the last 10/15 minutes of a game?

You could even have a time out with 10/15 minutes to go for managers to make their substitutions. It would also mean that if any young lads get on the pitch then they would get at least 10/15 minutes.

This could be worse next year when VAR comes in for the "elite". Where will all of the VAR officials come from? Lower leagues? If so then we will be having Conference officials next season.

Don't forget you will have 10 minute sin bins for dissent at Step 7 and below next season after successful trials this year.

The poor refs must have around 5 stop watches strapped to their arm.

The best thing to do would be to get rid of throw-ins altogether. They're so utterly pointless. Why are players suddenly allowed to use their hands just because the ball went out of play. Should be a kick-in.

Or perhaps go back to 1900 rules: the ball has to be delivered back into play at 90 degrees to the touch line, as is the case in rugby. When Exodus was playing for us we looked forward to throw-ins, but since those days we haven’t had a long throw specialist. (And we have suffered at the hands of teams that have.)

Yes & the owner of the ball decides if a shot went over or not, acceptable range 3ft to 20ft.

A foul shall not be deemed as a foul as long as the fouler makes an audible claim of 'I went for the ball' before breaking both legs of the foulee.

Throw ins optional. Players can take a throwor leap into the crowd and try to hack the ball back into play from the stand.
