With the limited amount of time he has been given Atkinson has always done well. Needs more opportunities.

Personally not a fan of Mellis, with his supposed quality he should be dominating midfield play, taking a game by the scruff of the neck. Been woeful

Ok fair enough.

Personally don’t see the point in keeping Atkinson (who won’t want to say anyway) when we already have similar midfielders at the club, over Mellis who is frustrating at times but is our most creative player.

He dropped off when he needed to play deeper, but as a midfielder up the pitch he is awesome

Jacob Mellis was playing far too deep in the 1st half against Newport.

Will Atkinson played very well when he came on and it made you wonder why DF had not made more use of him.

Will rule out players like Davies, Khan leaving.

I think we could build our team around Khan to be honest, he was very unfortunate to not be given a chance when Grant came in.

Really? You honestly think Will Atkinson is a better footballer then Jacob Mellis?

In my opinion Mellis has been our only creative player at times. Finished the season on 10 assists (more then anybody)

You’ve got to be kidding!

Atkinson is an average footballer, I don’t really get what he offers? To say he’s better than Mellis after 10 good minutes is crazy. Mellis may give the ball away at times but at least he’s trying to play football, unlike most of the team who resorted to hoofing it. His football brain and technical ability is one of the best in the squad for me. We can’t just have a midfield of workhorses and we already have 3 of those in Bishop, Macca, and Tomlinson.

Personally I would let Macca, Mellis and Atkinson go. I'm 99% sure we will go 352 again and for me a fit Otis Khan should be the front of that midfield 3. But if he is Mellis can't be the extra midfielder with Bish it has to Tomlinson.

Mellis had some great games this year but too often he fades out of games. When you play him deep he isn't strong enough when you push him forward he is often too sloppy.

McDonald isn't a central midfielder he is too erratic. He was very good out wide and we tried to convert him it hasn't worked and now no one knows what he is, including himself.

Atkinson will still be on a decent wage and I think we can get better for the money.

Tomlinson wasn't great in the play offs but definitely needs sticking with.

I would suspect that JD already has his retained list, just as I suspect the managerial change isn’t just a knee-jerk reaction from JR.

I’m not attributing Machiavellian motivation to the decision, but JR is a businessman, and a very successful one. He didn’t get where he is by being sentimental. I’ve never met him, and I’m prepared to accept that he’s a nice guy and a genuine fan. But I’d guess there’s a ruthless streak in him, and that he is decisive when need be.
