At least we have the strikers to play direct football.

I'm just saying. I don't necessarily think we have to play great football, just its an added bonus.

Parkinson apparently turned down Lincoln last weekend, so doubt he will be coming here.

He was asked about it on the EFL highlights at the weekend, didn't mention that he had been approached, and said Ainsworth would be their best bet. Also said the Southend job wasn't for him.

It's more entertaining to work out which lower league managers we don't want.... I think between us we can discount them all.
I'll start with:
Kevin Nolan
Neal Ardley
Harry Kewell
Jack Lester
Martin Allen
John Sheridan
Steve Evans
Phil Brown
Carlton Palmer
Joey Barton

Any more ?

I'd love to see Steve Cotterill, just to see Martin's reaction.

Parkinson achieved promotion from league 1 playing "longball" with Bolton while under a transfer embargo pretty much all season.

A manager what can gain the respect of the players. Play positive attacking football and have a clear plan in place for the future.

We have a squad designed by DF to keep possession so will be pretty pointless hiring a longball merchant.

Is there a lower league Bielsa knocking about who wont bottle the final quater games of the season ?

I've seen Gary Rowett at the Mill watching a game when he was Burton manager he's probably out of our league now), also Mark Cooper when he was out of work.

A manager that confiscates the players phones when they are in the gym might be a good start.

Parkin was a bit before my time. Was he well like here? Is he likely to have thought positively of his time here?

I remember Flitcroft saying that Futcher talked highly of his time here.

He hated Haslam, which put him in good stead with the fans.

I feel Parkinson is out our range.

Of who is available Derek Adam's is a good option.

If we go for another teams manager Jim Bentley would whip our work shy show ponies into shape

Stuart Watkiss would do a good job. I M O.

I'd like Parkin, he wasn't well liked by the players when here last time, maybe a good thing.

Has worked in the Championship and gained experience since leaving us.

Parkin was here 20 years ago. The only thing remaining from his era is Alan the Announcer.

I had the privilege of getting to know Steve Parkin’s mum and dad whilst he was manager and watching our home games with them. Seems like a lifetime ago now, they were lovely people. The stress of the games didn’t do his mum any favours and she could chain smoke for England.

Got to hear some interesting stories of life working for Haslam. One that sticks in my mind was the signing of Lee Peacock which the. Calver Cowboy proudly boasted as being anywhere between £125,000 and £150,000. The real figure was significantly less and Parkin drove up to Carlisle and kipped in his car for the night before meeting Peacock and persuading him to sign.

Another story that’s worth sharing is the time Parkin dropped Brian Killer Kilckline after a run of poor performances. The giant centre back apparently sulked like a big baby so Parkin (who is about 5ft nowt) called Killer into his office, locked the door and squared up to Kilckline. I believe Killer came back into the side, produced a MOM performance and scored (Northampton at Field Mill maybe).

On a more serious note, Parkin’s sides generally mixed hard work whilst playing attacking passing football. The fact we flirted with promotion whilst the manager had to work under Haslam is great testimony to how we played. I remember Cardiff coming to the Mill already promoted, huge away following and we played them off the park and won 3-0.

Finally Steve Parkin is the man who unearthed the one and only Iyseden Christie.

It’s fair to say I’m a bit of a fan.

I liked him as a manager, and he was always very candid about working under Haslam. My only gripe with his was that I felt the act of releasing most of the squad and then resigning was a deliberate act aimed at causing KH as much grief as possible. Which as an act of revenge is fine, if you have no regard for the fans stuck with the aftermath.

Billy Dearden was calling in favours left & right just to have a team to put out on the eve of that season.
