Potential Managers (Plan B)

Postby Tippy Tappy Football » Mon May 13, 2019 2:56 pm

Following on from discussions on another thread, who are the potential candidates to take up the hot seat at the Stags if JR decided he does not trust DF enough to give him another season or if DF received a better offer from another club. All clubs should have a list of names and a Plan B in case they decide to replace their manager or he is poached by another club. This is a thread we can update from time to time as potential good candidates become available.

Managers with League 2 Promotions
Keith Hill (Rochdale) (possibly bring in as Assistant Manager as he is DF's mate?)
Gary Rowett (Burton Albion)
Stuart McCall (Bradford City)
Ryan Lowe (Bury) - He may not have been paid for a few months.
Darrell Clarke (Bristol Rovers) (Just appointed by Walsall)
Derek Adams (Plymouth Argyle)
Steve Cotterill (Cheltenham Town)
Graham Westley (Stevenage)
Steve Evans (Crawley and Rotherham)

Some fans will be foaming at the mouth at the mention of some of the Masters of the Dark Arts above particularly the return of the Scottish manager

Managers with League 1 Promotions
Simon Grayson (Huddersfield Town and Preston North End)
Paul Heckingbottom (currently at Hibernian)

Big Names
Sol Campbell
Paul Scholes

Managers with Mansfield Connections
Richie Barker
Darrell Clarke (Walsall)
Ian Barraclough
Paul Heckingbottom (Hibernian)
Alex Neil (I wish!) (Preston)
Colin Calderwood (Cambridge United)
David Artell (Crewe Alexandra)

John Dempster

Any other suggestions for the Plan B list?

Stick with DF.....hopefully he’s learned a lesson from the second half of this season.

He has a full budget to himself now and a recruitment manager so absolutely no excuses next season.

It looks like Paul Hurst is going to Scunthorpe and I can't see Michael Appleton leaving West Brom.

DF sadly will be here as I think he had agreed long term plan but whether this depended on promotion this season nobody knows
I thought whole purpose of this long term plan was to progress and not have major re build every season but looking at the squad there is only a handful spine of a team I would retain
Largely Oljenk White Pearce Mellis Preston Bishop Sweeney the rest eeerrrmmm ...clear out esp Khan as guessing he is on a big wage

Re new manager if there was to be one would Kieth Hill for me knows this level very well

Wycombe stuck with their manager and eventually got it right. There are good managers out there but will they look at Mansfield like the Scottish manager did and just want to use us. I think DF is loyal and honest and although things haven't turned out how we all want I think he deserves another season. However if he's struggling in Oct/Nov then.....

Stick with David Flitcroft and learn from County’s demise.
Bet they wish they’d stuck with Nolan

What are those managers plan A and plan B? No point appointing them if they have no plan B.

Sorry but I've said on other threads, too many variables out of DF's control occurred this season. However, for this coming season he will be able to release any player he doesn't want from previous regimes and bring in his own players.

The onus will be wholly on him. He also must acquire automatics or play off finals at least.

apparently some of the county players told boardroom staff they should've stuck with Nolan and they wouldn't have been relegated

as someone else said, be careful what you wish for

I don't think that JR is even considering sacking Flitcroft. More likely he's holding meetings with him this week to discuss the squad.

Whilst I'm dissatisfied with what DF has failed to deliver I nevertheless would run screaming to the hills at the thought of Steve Cotterell Simon Grayson and Stuart McCall none of whom have done anything after an initial success followed by repeated failure.....at least Paul Lambert...Mark Hughes...Alan Parker. .Steve McClaren. ...Owen Coyle are never likely to subject us to their band of failure.

One name not on the list but maybe worth a shout .. ..what about Mick McCarthy .

They did, that was where they went wrong.

What they should have done was stuck with Kewell and sacked the player who were undermining him.

Fairplay to DF there can only be one gaffer in the dressing room.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

ok, if DF were to go, and I dont think he will, I would grab Dave Artell who has done incredibly well at Crewe with virtually no budget and get Leroy in the backroom to bring through the young lads
