I think Jose Baxter has a few "issues" which would make me cross him off my list.

I would definitely take Liam Bossin (keeper) and Joe Coveney (centre half but played in defence & midfield). I'm really shocked that they've both been released as they were regulars all season & always did well.

He resigned mate.

On his day a very very good player, technically talented but has had a lot of off field issues with drugs. Would be a big gamble

There is a good interview with Nathan Jones on D3D4 where he says that most managers do not have time to work with players with problems because if the manager does not get instant results then he could be gone within 3-6 months (or even shorter). I thought it was a fair point to make. He said this is why he researches a player's character in depth before signing them.
Players with problems suit managers who know they have a bit more time to get results (e.g. John Coleman at Accrington) or clubs with lower budgets who might take a punt on signing a quality player with problems who they would not normally have a chance of signing if the player was problem free.

Reece Brown will get lots of offers if he is out of contract at FGR. He and Jamie Devitt at Carlisle will be a popular choice for the No 10 playmaker role (attacking midfielder). Reuben Reid has been transfer listed.
Forest Green Rovers
Released: Lee Collins, Gavin Gunning, Isaac Pearce, Scott Laird, Jordan Simpson, Tahvon Campbell, Haydn Hollis and Fabien Robert
New Contract Offered: Reece Brown

he was good for us. it's a shame he never made a name for himself in the championship/prem as he looked destined for big things.

Cracking call, would suit a wing back role good too.

Luke O'Neill was always more of a wing back than a full back. He frequently got caught out of position charging up the pitch (a bit like Mal Benning!) but his pace tracking back used to get him out of trouble.

Hayden White is better than O’Neill.

Having had a quick skim of the current retained lists and filtering through the dross, it seems there are a number of quality options available for free:
Goalkeepers: Lee Burge, Aaron Chapman, Lawrence Vigouroux
Right Backs: Luke O’Neill, Jack Grimmer
Left Backs: Scott Laird
Centre Backs: Ryan Tafazolli, Nathan Cameron, Peter Clarke, Olly Lancashire
Centre Mid: George Maris, Hiram Boateng, Reece Brown
No.10 / Winger: Graham Carey, Matty Done, Gevaro Nepomuceno, Jay O’shea
Striker: Ashley Nadesan, Mikael Mandron, Jordan Bowery, Chris Long, Danny Hylton, Nicky Maynard, David Ball
Available but unrealistic: Chuks Aneke, Danny Mayor, Sammie Szmodics, Kieran Agard
