Pearce wasn't supposed to be first choice. The injury to Mirfin and injuries / form of Diamond helped him cement his place under Evans.

Steve Evans bought David Mirfin and Zander Diamond to be his first choice centre halfs which was not really necessary as we already had Krystian Pearce and Rhys Bennett. He soon realised that Krystian Pearce was performing better than Zander Diamond and brought him in after the opening game at Crewe. David Mirfin was doing well but then got injured which allowed Rhys Bennett back at centre half next to Pearce. Krystian Pearce played every game until he was suspended for Coventry away in November. We won that game with Diamond and Bennett in defence so Evans stuck with a winning team and we then beat Port Vale away, Stevenage at home and Guiseley in the FA Cup and drew with Chesterfield. We then lost to Crawley away and so Krystian Pearce was brought back for Yeovil at home which was a 0-0 draw. He was dropped for the Morecambe home game but then restored to the team for Grimsby away on Boxing Day and then played every game until Evans left. I therefore think it is fair to say that he played pretty regularly under Evans.

Krysyian Pearce was suspended under DF for the Accrington game and then left on the bench by Df for Luton away and Crewe at home.

Good to see my comment made it onto the Stacey West blog  He is right though, I would gladly swap four players and 4th in the league to two players and promotion already secured, no matter how hated our manager/team was.

Well done the Pearce also being named in the EFL team of the Year.... great achievement for him and the other lads being in the team of the year for league two.

Was a great night glad I could be there.

Few people saying they won't bully their way up the league one table. I think if we both go up, we'll finish higher than they do next season

There's nothing to fear in League One if we get there, that's for sure. The levels are not too dissimilar. Look at the table. Luton are going to win the league, Coventry 9th. Wycombe and Accrington not safe but outside the relegation zone with very similar squads to the ones they had last year, if not weaker. All of the teams from 16/17 still in L1, none in the relegation zone, 3 in the top 8. 3 of the 4 teams from 15/16 still in there, only Wimbledon in the relegation zone.

Krystian Pearce, Mal Benning, CJ Hamilton and Tyler Walker all make Ben Mayhew's League 2 Team/Squad of the Season using the FPL scoring system. Three of them were signed by Adam Murray.

No Lincoln City players included but apparently John Akinde was ranked 5th among forwards and Harry Toffolo 6th among defenders so just missed the cut.

Three Newport players included - Joe Day, Dan Butler (signed by Paul Cox at Torquay) and Padraig Amond.

Too many TLAs there TTF. You meant FPL scoring system rather than EFL, where the F in FPL is fantasy.

I asked where Neal Bishop finished in the midfield rankings. Here is Ben's reply:

"He's 27th overall with a score of 109 points. Tackles etc gets rolled into bonus points for the Premier League, but aren't officially captured / freely available for the EFL so I've had to exclude them."

The FPL rankings therefore must just use completed passes, assists and goals etc which would not work in Bish's favour.

I'm surprised Danny Mayor did not make it.

Danny Mayor was ranked 10th with 142 points. He missed 7 games plus lost points for 9 yellows and a red card.

Nicky Adams just missed out in 6th and Nicky Maynard was 4th among forwards.
