Is it worth risking him against newport and him getting booked, resulting in bim missing the county game

If the County game was the only game that mattered, then you'd rest him.

But it isn't, so I'm sure he'll play if he's fit.

Same applies to Sweeney.

I get your thinking mate, but what will be will be. Bish has to play against Newport and hopefully he doesn’t get a yellow card. My argument would be that Notts are bottom for a reason and if he did indeed miss it, we should be good enough to get something from the game anyway. Here’s hoping he doesn’t get anymore yellows though.

Don't think DF will rest him. He will value each game as equal but the next game will get his 100% attention. He will want to beat Newport as much as Notts County. Us fans tend to think differently.

It's the FGR game we need him fresh for. To stop them playing through the middle. We've got enough on the bench to deal with County.

Of course he should play against Newport. Each game is worth 3 points. The Notts. County game is no different to any other game in that respect.

He might not get booked at Newport - And most likely, he will contribute to a valuable point, or more.

It's a no-brainer ...... He plays until he can't.

We should always play our strongest side. If we get comfortable on top, THEN players on the brink of a ban can be subbed.

As much of a big player Bish is for us, we can’t keep relying on him, it’s up to rest of the midfield to step their games, if he gets suspended.

This.

But remember its a two game ban so if he picks one against either Newport or Notts he'll miss FGR.

Worst case scenario is we lose Bishop, Sweeney and Preston against Forest Green who are currently the form away team in the league.

Someone's put on fb that if macca comes through the reserve game this week then he will be in the squad for Newport!

If we lost Bish for the County game though, who would play defensive midfield?

I would think Bish would more than want to play against his former club at their place. Can see him doing his utmost to make friends with the ref!

I agree, it is a concern. Atkinson has been the 2nd choice, but he is not good enough. (And MacDonald isn't the answer in that position either). Perhaps Jones or Turner could play as a defensive midfielder? (Where is Digby when we need him  )

Either way, we don't have an obvious 'like for like' replacement for Bishop (unless one of the afore-mentioned can successfully step into that role).
We must accept that Bishop will miss a couple of games through suspension - And let's hope that we don't lose him for any more games through injury.

He will eventually get booked and miss 2 games...thats bad enough.

But if you rest him for a game before he gets booked , effectively he will miss 3 games!

Incidentally what is the date that yellow cards are “annulled” ?

37 matches I think. Then it's 15 yellows before the end of the season for a 3 game ban.

Tough One. Clownty appeared to have added some steel to their midfield this week, where as previously we could have played Kevin Sandwith and Terry Hawkridge in there and beat em. Could do with Bish for that one as we dont appear to have a similar replacement
Doubt it makes them any stronger than Newport though.
Down to the player in a way. He just needs to be careful on Saturday. I thought he was more aware of it v Macc and pulled out of a couple, but it is the way he plays.

I worked it out before. The Crawley game is the cut off point so he can't get a yellow between now and 12th March. It is following the Crawley game.

He has to go 6 games without a booking.

Crewe is game no 39, Crawley is game no.37 … just another six games

I edited my post once I realised I'd put wrong club and date down. I had worked it out and remembered it was a team beginning Cr and instantly thought Crewe and we played them in March. Then I thought it was 12th so checked fixture and there we have it, Crawley on the 12th.

Bishop should play and be old and wise enough just avoid obvious fouls where he can and yes agree should play at Newport forget County.

Thought he was lucky to escape a booking against Macc. It'll be a miracle if he manages to get through another game without one, but I think we'll need him against the pensioners. That new signing Doyle seems to boss the midfield.

Someone on Facebook reckons he spoke to MacDonald yesterday and he says he’s playing for the reserves tomorrow and if he comes through it he could be in the squad for Newport. It’s a big ask for him to come back in so quick, but I’d be more comfortable with Macca filling in when Bishop is inevitably suspended as opposed to Atkinson even though he’s been out for a while.

If Macca is ready for a match like he supposedly is playing tomorrow then he has another 2 weeks to get up to speed before he could be called upon if Bish is booked. Let’s see if he plays tomorrow!
