These players are under contract on big wages and so they are not going to move unless they are paid up. Does anybody know if they are on 2 or 3 year contracts?

The best deal for players in this situation is to negotiate a pay off from the current club and then sign a 2 year contract with a signing on fee from the new club. However based on the fact that these players have not started regularly over the last 18 months I very much doubt any League 2 or National League club will offer to match their current wages. Therefore the best option for them is to sit tight and pick up their wages from the Stags until the end of the season (and who can blame them!).

I don't think DF would want to release Will Atkinson as he is cover for Hayden White at right wing back.

Atkinson has been a steady understudy at right wing back and right back. He can also play in midfield. So he's useful player to have in the squad. He's certainly not dead wood, and I'm pretty sure he won't be leaving.

Butcher is a good player and shame he does not feature a bit more as he had a really good spell but he is a good back up and if club and him are happy with that and can afford him in that way then all well and good.

I have not seen much to convince me I'm afraid - I think he and Anderson would be two I would be trying to move on next month. I would definitely not be moving on Atkinson.

I think hes good to have for cup games, we only need an injury to two midfielders (which isn't a big ask) and he is in my opinion good enough to step in.

Honestly Id get rid of Atkinson, I could go round him when hes at RWB. I understand the fallout with Anderson so this is kind of irrelevant, but I rated him a better player in that position than any performance ive seen from atkinson

Problem is with Butcher is that now the cup games are over, i can't see him playing much.

He never comes off the bench either, so at the minute, he's of no use. As Martin pointed out, at least Atkinson can play in a few different positions so is of use to us.

Yeah youre right I don't see him getting much game time, barring injuries. I just don't rate Atkinson at all, just my opinion. Hes not so bad in midfield because he has players around him to cover, but Im never confident seeing him at RWB.

I'm not sure we need another prospect and would prefer a proven striker from our level or above. At 24 he's not exactly a young lad who is ripe for development and we have others who are 'ones for the future'
