The pitch on Saturday

Postby stag861 » Tue Oct 30, 2018 11:40 am

Was it just me or did the pitch appear to have been sanded or top dressed? Bobby's goal kicks had little spurts of sand coming up. It also seemed to slow the pitch down with several players not receiving the ball as quickly as expected.

Its had a few bags of seed and 30 tons of sand on it last week. Its the easier way to manage and be prepared for the colder temperatures when you only have one groundsman working on it.

Hopefully it works because the pitch on the far side looks a bit worn already.

The work mez puts in on it is amazing to say hes mostly on his own. Ive seen the day to day management and maintenance of one of the best pitches in the country at Derby and they had 5/6 lads constantly working on it all everyday. They were all there first thing in the morning and the last to leave. Mez is our unsung hero

Also RE watering the pitch... you wouldn't believe how quick it dries up after 45 minutes, nice and fast surface when youre passing it about is a nightmare for a defending team. Also stops the pitch going hard which is a nightmare to play on.
