Lormor, Holland, Wilkinson? Nope. Just goes to show that Dave Caldwell, as a player and a person had the little extra something that set him apart from the herd.

Ernie Moss far better player than Caldwell IMO and a proper professional.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

His strike partner Kevin Randall also. Both played a big part in our best ever season.

100pc this. Caldwell not fit to lace Ernie’s boots.

We made a huge mistake in releasing Ernie Moss. He had a long term injury, and it possibly cost us survival in Division 2 (aka the Championship).

Medical opinion at the time was that he wouldn't be the same player again. However, his style of play refuted that opinion. We released him and he went on to score lots of goals for other clubs. It was our loss.

Ernie Moss was a proper, old fashioned, no nonsense centre-forward.

I remember Ernie Moss scoring the winning goal against Chesterfield at Saltergate in the final minutes of a league game.

Moss, Randall, Caldwell & Wilkinson may have played for the Spireites (and the former two may be considered more Spireite than Stags players) ...... but they will also always be Stags legends.
