Byrom would have been excellent with a proper midfielder next to him. Playing a midfield diamond for most of the season meant he was holding midfield on his own for the majority of games he played. It was pretty foolish to suggest an ageing ball playing midfielder could get around the park to properly cover two or three midfielders. When he finally did get a partner it tended to be either Mellis who isn't a centre midfielder or Macca who also isn't a midfielder. His quality on the ball is excellent and is a player who will happily play the simple ball to keep the play moving rather than looking for a glory ball every time (Macca).

Its a shame he's going but if Evans wanted to play a one man midfield, he was never going to be the right type of player. I'm surprised Flitcroft doesn't like him.
The Stags are for life, not just for cup finals. (or Liverpool).

Gone downhill in Flitcroft eyes since he gave the equaliser away against Colchester when he desperately tried to keep the ball in play in front of the Bishop Street Stand.
Can we play Accrington Stanley every week.

Right decision, he’s a good player at this level though and will almost certainly play a blinder against Mansfied next season.

Sad, but I never realised he was 32 this year! Always thought he was younger than that.
