When did you last cry ?

Postby mapp stag » Thu Apr 12, 2018 7:03 pm

Continuing on the theme of misery.......when did you last shed tears watching The Stags? I admit to coming very close twice in my adult years, Wigan in FRT 1985 and Huddersfield Play Off Final in 2004 but have to go further back for real tears. Who saw Ray Train cruelly equalise for Watford at Vicarage Road against us in 1978/9 or Pat Sharkey miss the penalty at White Hart Lane in 1977/8, after Gordon Hodgson had had a goal disallowed earlier?

Yes, went to all of those...... but for emotion has to be the late winners at Wrexham and Hereford.

When Jason let in that hoofed "shot" by Rotherham. But it was a cry of desperation.

Not any Stags game.
But England 4 - 1 Holland. Euro 96.
Tears of joy, couldn't believe how Gazza and the boys ripped them apart.

Then the whole crowd singing "Footballs coming home".
Magic. :)
we're gunna need a bigger boat.

Gutted. I’ve got a spare one behind the goal. It’s yours no charge if you can get one for the nipper.

Easy one for me. Losing play off semi final against York City. We had had a great run only to fall at the second to last hurdle. Honestly, in a state of shock for three days, then the tears started! The realisation that we had to play another season out of the Football League was too much to bear. No tears since that day though. After forty one years watching Stags still reasonably sane!

I bet no-one on here will remember this match but ......

It was in the early 70's, I was about 8 years old. It was a midweek game at home to Bournemouth. It was half-time and Ted McDougal had scored a hat-trick against us - we were 0-3 or 0-5 down. It was the first time I had seen us being thrashed. It was very difficult for my 8 year old self to accept. :(

If anyone else remembers this game, it would be great to hear your recollections. Maybe my memory is playing tricks? (although it was definitely Bournemouth and Ted McDougal, who went on to play for Man Utd.)

Mate, that's a lovely gesture, very very much appreciated. However, I couldn't possibly go without the young un. I'm still contemplating just how to break it to her; she's looked forward to it for months.

Is there a way to get in touch with either club about this? Maybe you can get a replacement ticket.

Unfortunately I'm away with work so can't get to either club tomorrow so it looks like we're scuppered, unless someone has 2 tickets next to each other that they'd be willing to sell.

Might have to treat her in another way otherwise.

Last Saturday.
Tears were rolling down my cheeks, my sides were aching that much it hurt.

I think I was crying but strangely didn't feel sad or unhappy.

Yes that was it I was crying with laughter.

My ticket was posted and lost in transit.

I got the ticket barcode reissued and for collection at chesterfield ticket office. Lost ticket doesnt mean you cant go.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.
