Only 5 subs at an 'elite level'. Pretty sure some of the teams in that division are part timers, 1 team even packed up playing all together. How is that elite?

Million pound managers would name a goalkeeper as a substitute.

Can't blame them for gambling everything on promotion this year but finishing 6th out of 10 competitive teams and bottling the last 10 games after all the signings and funding they have had should be a real concern for them.

They are all claiming to be so proud but seem to have forgot that the £million messiah could not come up with a way of breaking down wealdstone, that they have already had most of next years season ticket money, that they will not be able to (ab)use furlough next year, that their home attendees had dropped below 2,000 before any covid restrictions, that the new squad will not look as good against southend, wrexham, stockport, hartlepool, grimsby, notts etc etc as it did this year against kids and part timers.

Their best hope is for a few more years in mid-table non league - their worst nightmare wound up by christmas - I hope they manage to achieve the non league option because they are good entertainment value

It's funny reading the comments on their forum. Very similar to us when we had our first positive season after the Haslam years, thinking we were going to smash the league straight away - indeed I've seen some of their fans use those exact words.

We finished 12th, 9th, 12th and 3rd before finally winning the league. I don't think they appreciate how hard it is to be number 1 in that division, even if you have a good season. Next year they'll have Southend and Grimsby both up there, Wrexham going all out to win it and 4 out of Torquay, Stockport, Hartlepool, Notts and Bromley. They scraped into 6th this year, not 3rd like we were in the play off loss that preceded our title. Think they're in for a shock and if they fail to go up next year, that will be 5 seasons down there.

I’d just like to say that I’ve had a cup of coffee, watched MotoGP warm up and then remembered that the Direshites got beat yesterday.

Lovely.

It's a classification the government gave to clubs at step 6 (national league North&South) and above in the league structure, I believe it was to show which teams could carry on playing around 9 months or so ago. In reality though they play in the top division of the semi professional game, the premier league of non-league, if you will.

I think their board were taking a more considered approach and were looking for mid table security. They then changed tack, probably influenced by their manager's undoubted early success in turning them into a better team. They then saw a chance of promotion ( some of their fans at the time were talking of automatic promotion ). They then went for broke, paying significant fees for that league on three players. It could well be they have, like you say used some of next season's season ticket revenue. If they have done that, it will be very difficult for them to improve on what they've got now in terms of quality players. They will find it hard to compete financially against clubs like Wrexham and Stockport. Some of their fans are expecting their manager to achieve automatic promotion next season. We know it doesn't necessarily work like that. I think they will disappointed. The National League will be more competitive next season.

Think it's 23 players whose contracts end 30th June, 7 contracted to 2022, and 4 on furlough.
The covid grant must of saved them financial ruin this year.
