My first ever professional match that I attended was a Spireites v Stags match at Saltergate, not long after the Munich air disaster in 1958.

Coincidentally, our then player-manager was Charlie Mitten, the ex-Man United star. My Dad was a half-hearted Spireite and had been forced into grudgingly taking me and my older brother to the game by our Mum. Stags won 4-1 and we were hooked on Mansfield, to Dad's disgust, as most of his workmates at the local Bolsover pit were Spireites.

I'm not sure if Charlie Mitten actually signed him but Lindy Delapenha, I think the first Jamaican to play in the Football League, and a superb player, joined Stags around the same time that Mitten left to manage Newcastle United as he'd made us so attractive.
Players like Lindy, Waggy and Stringfellow would go on to ensure at that time that we were very rarely beaten by that other lot.

And who would we then sign in 1963 but Charlie Mitten's famous and talented nephew, survivor of the Munich air crash, Albert Scanlon.

Aaah, our history ...

Listening to the Chairman of Borehamwood, I reckon we've shelved out a 6 figure fee for Tshimanga.

When he says the fee they set was aimed at top league1 / championship, he was amazed an NL side has activated the clause.

And yet he still plays in non league. Doesn’t appear to have much ambition if he could have had his pick of clubs. And supposedly only a verbal release clause, now why would that be? Couldn’t get a written one?
