BBC Radio Glos forecast 20-25mm of rain today

Postby Martin Shaw » Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:55 am

I've just tweeted this to FGR

BBC Radio Glos forecast 20-25mm of rain today. Can the @FGRFC_Official pitch cope with that? @conf_media_man

They won't want the game off as they have no spare time and neither do we.

The last 2 friday night games have been off on this tv programme thing though, so a 3rd time?

no reply yet so I've included Premier Sports on another tweet

20-25mm of rain forecast for Glos today. Can the @FGRFC_Official pitch cope with that? Any precautions being taken? @PremierSportsTV

They would be pretty upset to have a third consecutive Friday night game off I would imagine.

sw19stag has pointed out to me that FGR have already had one game off on Premier Sports due to a waterlogged pitch
http://www.forestgreenroversfc.com/news ... inspection

It does mention they claim to have "superb drainage", so that is promising

Surely the pitch can cope with that it's not as though it will fall in an hour, it will fall during the course of the day!! :coys:

It's on top of a hill. It ought to drain down to the bottom and collect in a v large puddle

So that is about an inch in old money?

Hopefully they will inspect before team and SSA coaches leave.

There is nothing to inspect. It's dry now and rain not due until this afternoon

That's promising then if it's dry at the minute. I'm no expert but I'm guessing it would take quite the rainfall to stop the match going ahead?

It is good news. However not to put a dampener on things (excuse the pun) :D They are expecting heavy rain from 1pm onwards as Martin has said lets just hope the pitch can take it.

According to the local forecast I posted above, about 10mm is due this afternoon. Can't see that being a problem unless the pitch is really badly drained. The rain is upposed to have started by now.

Lots of umbrellas up at Cheltenham which is just down the road. It does not look as if it is pouring down at the moment.

I have posted several photos on my twitter feed. Not able to put them here on my phone. Pitch is hard at the moment and the rain started coming down about half an hour ago, precisely as predicted.

The rain is now torrential. Large puddles forming in the centre of Nailsworth. Have taken refuge in a coffee shop and may not be emerging for a while
