Electronic Cigarettes Banned

Postby Chris M » Wed Mar 13, 2013 2:17 am

There was an announcement at the match last night that stated that electronic cigarettes have been banned. I presume that this is down to our friends at SAG again, making themselves busy, just for a change.

Is this for health and safety grounds, or is it because our "award winning security" cannot tell the difference between an electronic cigarette and the real thing?

I've seen people on Youtube using them on aeroplanes

I want to hear the justification from the powers that be WHY they have decided on this?

Can use them anywhere in the world... Apart from Field Mill.

What a joke.

You can use them in any football stadium in the country and the world, you can use them in offices, pubs, shops, buses, trains and many many other places.

It'll be the Security having a bit of a rave. Take one in and use it, if they throw you out drag their backsides through the press.

They don't produce smoke they produce vapour which has nothing in it.

Last year, I was using Ryanair a lot for work purposes and they were flogging these electronic fags on the flight (anything to make a few bob, eh Michael?), saying that they could be used anywhere where smoking is not permitted.

I then got a Regional Airlines flight... where they were pointed out that smoking was not allowed, "including electronic cigarettes". You couldn't make it up.

And I was paranoid that it was me
As a season ticket holder I have been using my electronic cigarette in the ground for the past 2 seasons home and away - the only time I have ever been told I could not use it was Grimsby AWAY - They changed their mind at hlaf time and told me they had checked and I could use it. I have openly used it at Field Mill for over 2 seasons and it has never been commented on.

Electronic cigarettes UK law - how things work
Electronic cigarettes UK law does not regulate these devices as tobacco products, so you are completely free to smoke them in establishments where smoking has officially been banned. Of course, it is ultimately up to individual establishments to decide whether or not you can use your e cigarette within their premises, but most bars and pubs in the UK allow e smokers to vape whenever they choose. E cigarettes have not yet been formally studied extensively, and this is one of the reasons why some people remained concerned about issues related to overall safety.

sounds like its the clubs decision which the stewards are just inforcing

I've heard that SAG are going to ban underpants at Wonk because they could be removed during a game and placed over your head to conceal your identity.

I know from an attendee at the SAG where the matter was raised by our side, that SAG did not have a view at all and our club made the ban decision.

They are allowed at Forest but not at County (or is it the other way round?).

There is no set policy and it is down to the club.

Arsenal also do not allow them.

i can only assume it's because allowing them makes it more difficult for the stewards to spot real smokers from e-smokers so they've banned them all. bit daft though.

I wonder if they will ban bubble pipes because they may look like real pipes?
Maybe not because an under 10 would be unlikely to smoke a real pipe!

You can get the e-cigs with a red or green light at the end I think. The red ones look like regular cigs. Mind you - on black and white monitors I would think they all look the same.

i occasionally go onto the stairwell on the way up to the ian greaves upper to make phone calls at half time .a couple of months ago there was a couple of chavs having a smoke on the middle landing , on saturday there were 5 or 6 there and when told it was no smoking stadium by a 12 year old steward one of them replied they are electronic and we can smoke them here . i would not be suprised if the steward has reported the incident to his supervisor .

Personally, I don't understand why you'd ban E-cigs. Don't they release water vapour? So there's no damage of passive smoke, unless inhaling gaseous water is going to kill you.
Plus, if somebody was smoking a real cigarette, surely you would tell from the smell. I've never had a problem asking somebody to put their fag out because it isn't allowed. But I don't mind e-cigs.

I cannot understand the problem with them being banned.
If you cannot go about 2 hrs without one I think you need some serious medical help.

Some people will find anything to moan about

Not sure why this is in the stags/ football discussion forum, but whatever.

Technically correct, I think it's more down to other smokers seeing someone smoking an ee-garette (funky new name I just came up with) and thinking "Oh, they're smoking, so i'm going to as well" and then they light up a real one.

Things like this come into existence with little to no regulation, and before you know it, laws and discretions of certain places (restaurants, football grounds etc) are conflicting with one another - soon enough there will be an uproar and "SCANDAL" that they're not exactly what we once thought and that they require tighter regulations, if not completely banned altogether - (sorry, that's just a bugbear of mine)

It's quite obvious that the reason they've banned them is because, from distance, stewards cannot tell the difference between e-cigarettes and tobacco ones. Quite understandable in my opinion.
