He's scored a late away winner at his previous 2 clubs this season, knows where the goal is. I'd have him in any other Mansfield team than the current one, he wouldn't be in the first XI

No.

No we’ve moved on to better. Couldn’t hold his place last season so no chance this season
Does not fit Nigel’s style of play

Also, I think DJ is a good striker. It’s just not clicked yet.

Scored the winner at Walsall again and celebrated in front of the Walsall fans again too

Early doors neither Oates or Johnson impressed that much , I also think DJ is a good striker who is in need of a bit of luck , not sure how many consecutive first team starts he has had but I reckon given a decent run of games he will come good . I also think he could turn into our version of McKirdy . A player home supporters like and away fans despise .

I think people are right to say it hasn't clicked for him yet, he was unfortunate to score a hattrick then get injured for 6 weeks, probably sums up his season so far. I do think he will have a part to play, I thought he looked sharp when he came on the other week.

Keeping all the strikers happy will be a tough job for NC but I am sure he can manage it.

Oates, Akins, Bowery, Hawkins, Johnson. Quality strikers at this level.

Danny Johnson was a strange signing for Nigel Clough. He likes players who press, run and work hard and that's why he probably released Andy Cook and Nicky Maynard. They were probably also on big money. However that's also not Danny Johnson's game but the main attraction was that he is a goalscorer who can score with his left foot, right foot and headers. We just need to supply the ammunition.

Rhys Oates has been brilliant in the centre in the No 9 position where he leads from the front and chases everything. I would be reluctant to move him out wide at the moment to accomodate Danny Johnson, Lucas Akins or Oli Hawkins. Danny Johnson can play out on the left which he did a lot for Orient but Jordan Bowery will work harder in that position and I think Lucas Akins will do the same on the right when he gets in the team. A fit Danny Johnson is a good player to have in the squad though to bring off the bench if we need a goal (Plan B) and we can also chuck Oli Hawkins up front from defence (Plan C). Lots of options and potential headaches for Nigel Clough but if we keep winning then he will stick with the same team. He's not a great one for squad rotation and changing the team and rightly so. If it ain't broke then don't fix it.

I've had a look back through Martin's reports to see where Nigel Clough has dropped a player due to under performing and there are not that many. Most changes have been due to suspensions, injuries, ill health, covid, parental leave etc.

Nigel Clough changes due to under performance in previous game (Previous Game/Dropped against)
George Lapslie (Col U/Bradford City)
Rhys Oates (Orient/Swindon)
Danny Johnson (Swindon/Harrogate)
Farrend Rawson (Swindon/Harrogate)
Tyrese Sinclair (Walsall/Rochdale)
Danny Johnson (Orient/Barrow)
Rhys Oates (Oldham/Barrow)
James Clarke (Northampton/Port Vale)
Danny Johnson (Northampton/Port Vale)
Jordan Bowery (Exeter/Tranmere)
George Maris (Sutton/Crawley)*
Ollie Clarke (Sutton/Crawley)*
Harry Charsley (Sutton/Crawley)
Jordan Bowery (Sutton/Crawley)

* = Nigel Clough said Maris and Clarke were dropped due to risk of suspension as they were on four yellow cards

Clough says he wants a squad of 17/18 first teamers, realistically that will be:

Bishop
Stech
Hewitt
Rawson
O'Toole
Perch
Macca
Wallace?
Lapslie
Charsley
Quinn
Stirk
Maris
Law
Akins
Johnson
Bowery
Oates

got a feeling either Charsley or DJ will push for a move the first team football which will be interesting to see how that pans out, hope i’m wrong as i see both as quality bench warmers

pure guess, don’t know anything

I was thinking the same, NC said something in his interview the other day (cant remember the actual words) but it was about having bids for our players and if someone was to leave he would need to be replaced.

You need to add Clarke and Hawkins to the list of players.

I think Clarke is likely on the cusp, but Hawkins is a must keep.

Whoops, thanks for pointing that out, means 20 players then, unless he is including Law as a youth back up,

He was definitely including Perch, he mentioned his return may be the reason we send Nartey back (hence why I have not included him on the list)

Signed for Rochdale. A lot of money for them if that reported fee is true. Didn’t they pay a fee for a lad from Darlington the other day as well? Don’t expect that fee to have been as substantial but nonetheless bit surprised at their spending.

Be interesting to see if they have enough left for O’Keeffe

Two great signings for Wrexham.
Promotion winning signings too.
Ollie Palmer has improved a hell of alot since his time with us.....he will score goals aplenty for Wrexham.
McFadzean has two promotions on his CV....born winner and a good player !
