Certainly need to sort the defence from the last 2 games, all 4 goals have been poor to give away and most unlike us.

I agree Andy, I'd play real Macca at LB and Williams at RB. Macca has looked very good and is our best attacking LB.

Can understand people saying that Bowery could do with a rest. I would worry though about Matt Smith peeling onto smaller full backs like McLaughlin and Williams though when crosses come into the box. I believe it was MacDonald that Smith peeled onto to score his header against us in the reverse fixture. Bowery would be able to contest aerial duels against Smith at the back post a lot better I think.

I don’t think people realise how good Smith is in the air.

This is why i want 4 lads that are good in the air , 2 CB and both Full Backs..
Macca is obviously better going forward than Willams and JB but them two will cope better with Smith pulling off the 2 CBs

Let the 4 defenders defend and let the rest of our talented team, whoever plays win the game for us.

No midweek match this week and no fixture after tomorrow until next Saturday so no reason for anyone to be rested. My thinking is that we will see what Nigel thinks is his best available X1. Mine would be:

Pym

Bowery Flint Brunt Cargill

Reid
Clarke Quinn
DKD

Akins Swan.

My record at selecting the team that Nigel plays is rubbish so expect at least 4 changes to that.

My view is Bowery needs a rest and should be on the bench, he looked shattered ladt week.
Bring Williams and Macca in, move Cargill into centre.
If Maris is unfit draft in Brunt.

Can you imagine the reaction to such a seismic change on here, though?

I think the big thing here is don’t give silly free kicks and corners away. Clearly Smith is an aerial threat but there’s a lot that can been done to cut off his supply. Williams is very unlucky not to be in the team anyway in my view and I think he will play given Nigel’s comments post Walsall.

At LB or RB would he be expected to?

Pym
Bowery Flint Brunt Cargill
Reed
Clarke Quinn
DKD
Akins Nichols

Harsh on Williams, especially after NC said he should of played last week, however I agree with others, height might be key.

Clough’s interview seems to say he thinks they will play on the break so I’d change it up a little and even go back to two holding mids as long as the wing backs push on and push them backwards:

Pym

McLaughlin
Cargill
Flint
Bowery

Brunt
Reed
Maris
DkD
Quinn

Akins
Swan

Staring with 12 men and what looks like Macca at RB. Interesting. Don't think we will get away with that one!

Think the FA might have a problem with us fielding 12 players personally....

It’s not about having a full back of Bowery’s size beating Smith in the air. Only Flint will be able to beat Smith in the air at times. It’s about him having more size and strength than Williams and McLaughlin to make any headers more difficult for Smith when he peels onto full backs when they have the ball out wide. If you’re not going to be able to beat him in the air, you need to have the size and strength to not let him bully his way into an uncontested header in the position that he wants. Like he did with MacDonald when he easily walked him into the six yard box and nodded it in without much challenge.

Need to change our name to Mansfield City known as Man City for short. Tell the FA we are now owned by Sheik Radford and all should be fine. If not then they can add the charge to the other 115 pending which will get resolved on twelveteenth of Never.
