STAGS SIGN FAZ RAWSON AFTER RELEASE BY FORESTGREEN
Stags land commanding centre-half
mansfieldtown.net, Fri 17 July 2020
Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of commanding defender Farrend Rawson on a two-year contract.
The former Forest Green Rovers’ centre-half becomes the Stags’ fifth new signing since the conclusion of the 2019-20 season.
Working closely alongside new director of football David Sharpe, manager Graham Coughlan has already landed strikers Jordan Bowery and Jamie Reid, along with experienced goalkeeper Marek Štěch and industrious midfielder Ollie Clarke.
Rawson, Stags’ latest acquisition, came through the youth ranks at Derby County and then enjoyed loan spells with Accrington, Coventry City and Rotherham United before leaving Pride Park to join Forest Green in January 2018.
The 24-year-old has since been a mainstay in the Forest Green Rovers’ defence, making 97 appearances for the Gloucestershire club.
Manager Graham Coughlan said: “This is another terrific addition to our squad.

“For someone so young, Faz has amassed a lot of experience and game time and with the right coaching he can definitely push himself to the next level.
“He is honest, hard-working and a real commanding figure in both boxes.
“Faz and his wife have shown real commitment to this move, given they have recently had a new born baby.
“We are delighted to have him on board and can’t wait to get started.”
stat by Martin: Rawson has scored 4 goals in around 90 appearances for Forest Green. 2 of them were in Forest Green's 4-3 win at Mansfield last season!
Rawson told iFollow Stags:
"I'm really excited for the journey ahead with Mansfield.
I'm living in Bristol at the moment with my family.
I'm going to try my best to reach the goal which is promotion.
I'm strong on one v ones, I'm about keeping the ball out of one net, and then if I can add a couple in the other then it's a bonus.
I spoke to the manager, he told me the aspirations for the club, and the goals he has for the club, and that met my goals.
He also spoke about where he thinks I can go and it really excited me.
It's a new challenge for me and I wanted to get that excitement and that fire back in the belly.
I've played with Jordan (Bowery) at Rotherham, and Kellan Gordon, I came through the academy with him.
I recently just had a little girl, it's been really nice to spend time with her and the missus, and watch her grow up these last four months (during the pandemic).
I'll be moving closer (to Mansfield), and I'm a Nottingham lad so it's not far away from home. Mansfield is just perfect for me."

Welcome to the #Stags’ family @Farrendrawson1.
We’re slowly, but surely, building a squad that we hope can represent our club and fans with pride next season, whenever it comes around.
Still much work to do on all fronts. We’ll get there. Together.

I'm led to believe Steve Evans would very much like to take Farrend Rawson to Gillingham if he can get to go ahead at a board meeting later this week.
