I'm told Mansfield are set to throw big money deals around this summer in an attempt to earn that elusive promotion. Michael Bostwick likely to arrive there in late June.

Mansfield Town are looking to sign former Lincoln City defender Michael Bostwick, according to reports.

The Stags are coming off the back of a very poor campaign in the fourth tier and have already made changes to the backroom team in order to help them achieve their ambitions in 2020/21.

In an exclusive interview with D3D4 Football, Mansfield’s newly appointed director of football David Sharpe stressed the need for good ‘characters’ in their recruitment strategy this summer.

Micheal Bostwick certainly fits the bill having helped Lincoln City the League Two title in 2018/19 and consolidate in League One this year, before the season was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to James Goodwin, the Stags have an interest in the 32-year-old, who could end up joining the club later this month.

After finishing 21st in the division this season, there is a determination from the chairman John Radford, to avoid another disappointing campaign, especially considering the Stags missed out on automatic promotion in 2018/19 on the final day of the campaign at MK Dons.

They would go on to lose in the play-off semi-final to Newport on penalties who themselves lost to Tranmere in the final. With 11 players released this summer, including Matt Preston and Krystian Pearce, Mansfield need to bring in defensive recruits and Michael Bostwick could be one of the first to arrive.

He played 21 times in all competitions this season for Lincoln, scoring one goal but will always be remembered fondly at Sincil Bank thanks to his performances in the Imps glorious promotion campaign in 2018/19.
