18th January 2019 19:07

Stags capture Charlton striker
mansfieldtown.net, Monday 14 January 2019

We are delighted to announce that Charlton Athletic striker Nicky Ajose has joined the Stags on loan until the end of the season.

Born in Bury, Ajose began his career with Manchester United, and moved to the Addicks by way of Peterborough, Leeds United and Swindon Town.

The 27-year-old has made 16 appearances for Charlton this season, the majority of which have come in Sky Bet League One.

Ajose won Swindon’s Player of the Season award in 2016, following a campaign where the striker netted 25 times in 40 appearances.

The front man was also part of the Bury side that won promotion from League Two in the 2010-11 season, scoring 13 times as the Shakers finished second in the table.

Manager David Flitcroft said: “Nicky could’ve been in and out of a League One team who are going for promotion and so the hunger and desire he has shown to come to us is what has most impressed me.

“He wants to come here, make games and score goals. His quality in his finishing, intelligence in and around the pitch and movement is fantastic.

“He is a player who can link well with current players in our squad. We have an excellent environment which Nicky will thrive in here.

“Nicky is a proven goal scorer with nearly 100 goals on his CV at only 27. His qualities will suit the way we play, and the number of quality chances that the team creates.”

Mansfield move a ‘no-brainer,’ says frontman
mansfieldtown.net, Monday 14 January 2019

New striker Nicky Ajose says that joining the Stags was a ‘no-brainer,’ as he looks forward to being part of the ‘brilliant football’ that Mansfield play.

The 27-year-old signed for the amber and blue on loan earlier today, in a move that sees him join David Flitcroft’s side from Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.

Ajose has his sights set on success with the Stags, and says he wants to be ‘remembered’ by the impact he has on the club.

“It [move to the Stags] is about me showing people what I can do,” he said. “The way Mansfield are playing, with two games in hand, it’s 20 games to get promoted.

https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2019/january/nicky-ajose-interview/

“These are the kind of things that, as you get older, you realise don’t come around every season. I was lucky enough to get promoted in my first professional season, and at the time you think it comes around every season.

“I want to try and win something meaningful and be remembered somewhere, so it [move to Mansfield] was a no-brainer for me.

“The lads have done brilliantly to put us in the position where we are [in the table] and the manager has brought me and Granty [Jorge Grant] in to try and help get us over the line. If I can do so, which I’m sure I can, that would be brilliant.

“When you come to a new club it’s never easy, but I’ve played against Mansfield twice [this season], so I almost feel as if I know them already. There are some really talented players.

“The difference between the two leagues [League One and League Two] is not so much. Especially [in] the first game [against Mansfield in the Emirates FA Cup earlier this season], that’s a top ten League One team.

“There’s more than enough quality here to be in League One. If this team was in League One this year, they’d be very comfortable.

“When this opportunity was given to me to join a team which is pushing, that really was key for me. I don’t want to be playing [for a team] that’s direct. I’ve watched a few games here and the football has been brilliant at times, and I thought it would really suit me.”

Ajose spoke of his play-style on the pitch, adding that there is more to his game than just finding the back of the net.

“I’m a goalscorer and I want to score goals,” he explained. “I want to assist my team-mates and work hard. You can’t always be the one to score, but if I’m not scoring, I want to be affecting the game somehow.

“When the team’s scoring, I want to either be the one scoring or creating chances. I feel that when I get the service, I know I’ll score goals.

“I know how to win and what it takes, so I’m just going to try and bring that to the team.

“I feel like I was the third choice striker at Charlton, so I was just an injury away from getting in [to the first team].

“I feel like I’m better than that. I didn’t want to wait for someone else’s downfall, because I’m not that kind of person. I wanted to try and do it on my own.

“We have CJ [Hamilton], Tyler [Walker], Rosey [Danny Rose]. All the boys are doing well. I’ve just come here to try and help that.

“When new players come in, it raises the levels in training for the boys that are already here. Obviously for me and Granty, we’re going to try and push to get game time. That’s only going to be better for the manager.”

Delight as Mansfield Town sign Charlton Athletic striker Nicky Ajose on loan
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Monday 14 January 2019

Mansfield Town today made their second transfer window signing after taking Charlton Athletic striker Nicky Ajose on loan for the rest of the season. Stags boss David Flitcroft is delighted that the 27-year-old has agreed to drop a division to help try to shoot Stags to promotion.

Born in Bury, Ajose began his career with Manchester United, though never made their first team. He ended up with the Addicks after spells at Peterborough, Leeds United and Swindon Town. Ajose was part of the Bury side that won promotion from League Two in the 2010-11 season, scoring 13 times as the Shakers finished second in the table, and he also won Swindon’s Player of the Season award in 2016, after netting 25 times in 40 appearances.

Ajose has made 16 appearances for Charlton this season, the majority of which have come in Sky Bet League One, and he was on target in Charlton’s 5-0 FA Cup win over Mansfield back in November.

He was capped by England at U16 and U17 level and was also called up by Nigeria U20s for the 2009 African Youth Championship.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said: “Every player wants to play and it has been hard for Nicky. “He has got two strikers who are doing well in front of him. “I hope he does well. He has been a great pro. Mansfield are looking to get promotion from League Two and it will be a new challenge for him.

“They create a lot of chances. It’s a good opportunity for him to go there, play games, score goals and maybe get promotion with them. “I wish him all the best. I’ve not had one ounce of a problem with him around the place. “I told him on Friday that he’d been a good pro. I understand sometimes people just want to go and play - that’s the situation with him.”

New Mansfield Town signing Nicky Ajose given clear message from boss David Flitcroft
chad.co.uk, by MATT BROOKS

New signing Nicky Ajose has been given a clear directive from Mansfield Town boss David Flitcroft: ‘Help us get over the line’. Ajose signed for the Stags this week on loan from parent club Charlton Athletic in a deal which will keep the striker at the One Call Stadium until the end of the season. The 27-year-old has been on the periphery of the Addicks’ first team this season under Lee Bowyer and is hoping to reignite his own fortunes, as well as fire Stags to promotion. When asked what the manager has said to him, Ajose replied: “He’s said ‘help get us there, help us get over the line’. “Whether that be helping Tyler [Walker] or helping some of the other young lads. “When new players come in, it raises the levels in training for the boys that are already here. “Obviously for me and Granty [Jorge Grant], we’re going to try and push to get game time. That’s only going to be better for the manager.” Ajose has much-experience of the Football League with his best goals return coming in 2015/16, scoring 25 for Swindon Town in League One. “I’m a goalscorer and I want to score goals,” he said. “I feel like I was the third choice striker at Charlton, so I was just an injury away from getting in. ‘Let’s all get behind Martin O’Neill’s Nottingham Forest’ “I feel like I’m better than that. I didn’t want to wait for someone else’s downfall, because I’m not that kind of person. I wanted to try and do it on my own. “We have CJ [Hamilton], Tyler, Rosey [Danny Rose]. All the boys are doing well. I’ve just come here to try and help that.” Ajose has a promotion on his CV with Bury in 2010/11 and believes Mansfield have what it takes to not only make the step up but survive in League One. He said: “The way Mansfield are playing, with two games in hand, it’s 20 games to get promoted. “These are the kind of things that, as you get older, you realise don’t come around every season. “I was lucky enough to get promoted in my first professional season, and at the time you think it comes around every season. “I want to try and win something meaningful and be remembered somewhere, so it was a no-brainer for me. “The lads have done brilliantly to put us in the position where we are and the manager has brought me and Granty in to try and help get us over the line. “If I can do so, which I’m sure I can, that would be brilliant.” He scored against the Stags in the FA Cup earlier this season but was impressed by what he had seen of Flitcroft’s side. “There are some really talented players,” he said. “There’s more than enough quality here to be in League One. If this team was in League One this year, they’d be very comfortable. “When this opportunity was given to me to join a team which is pushing, that really was key for me. “I don’t want to be playing [for a team] that’s direct. I’ve watched a few games here and the football has been brilliant at times, and I thought it would really suit me.”

Charlton striker Nicky Ajose joins League Two club on loan
https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/5c3c935e1c6d1/charlton-striker-nicky-ajose-joins-league-two-club-on-loan

Nicky Ajose has joined Sky Bet League Two club Mansfield Town on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Charlton striker has seen his first-team opportunities limited this campaign due to the form of Lyle Taylor and Karlan Grant, who have scored 28 goals between them in all competitions.

Ajose has netted three Addicks goals this term - including one against Mansfield in the Emirates FA Cup - and Manager Lee Bowyer says that the forward wants regular first-team football.

“It’s been difficult for Nicky here obviously with the strikers we’ve got and the way they are playing. I think it was best for both parties for him to go on loan.

“To be fair to him he’s been a great pro and a good person around the place, I can’t knock him in any way. Hopefully he goes and scores goals and they get promotion. I wish him all the best.”

The move leaves Charlton with four strikers, the in-form Taylor and Grant, Igor Vetokele, who is set to return from injury in February and academy graduate Reeco Hackett-Fairchild.

Bowyer said: “There is no rush to replace Nicky at the moment. Like we’ve done all the way through in the summer and in January, if we are going to replace him with somebody, then it would have to be the right person that suits the group we have.

“I think our recruitment in the summer and now has been very good. We’re very careful on who we pick and I think you can tell that with the people we’ve brought in. Obviously, we’re a striker down but we’re not going to rush around and bring someone in for the sake of bringing someone in.”

End of the line for striker at Charlton Athletic - as he joins League Two promotion-chasers
14th January 2019, by Richard Cawley

https://www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/end-of-the-line-for-striker-at-charlton-athletic-as-he-joins-league-two-promotion-chasers/

Nicky Ajose’s Charlton career is over - with the striker signing on loan for Mansfield Town.

The striker is inside the final six months of his contract and has started just six of the club’s 28 League One matches this season.

It means the Addicks have shifted one of their top earners off the books. The former Manchester United man was a big-money signing from Swindon Town in July 2016 but struggled to cement a first-team spot.

He has been loaned to Swindon and Bury during his time in SE7.

“Every player wants to play and it has been hard for Nicky,” Charlton boss Lee Bowyer told the South London Press.

Ajose netted 11 times in 58 outings for the Addicks.
