In-form defender Kyle Howkins has extended his loan spell at One Call Stadium from West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has made 15 appearances this season since joining from the Premier League outfit and has produced a number of commanding displays in the backline.

After agreeing his extension with Baggies' boss Tony Pulis, Stags' manager Steve Evans said: "I'm delighted that Kyle has signed an extension to his loan.

"Initially, it was very difficult when we came in [as a management team] because Kyle was suspended and had a niggling injury as well. We managed to get him on the pitch and he has since been excellent.

"A big thank you goes to Tony Pulis, Nicky Hammond and Darren Moore over at West Bromwich Albion. It's a pleasure for me to say that we look forward to helping develop Kyle over the next four-five months of the season."

Howkins' loan deal officially expires on 31 May 2017.

Meanwhile, the Stags' manager has confirmed that he remains actively in talks with a number of clubs and player representatives in relation to further additions to the Stags' squad. The manager has not set a time limit on any prospective signing, other than to note that by the closure of the January transfer window, the squad needs to be ready to take on the challenges of having a much-improved finish to this season than the club has experienced up until the Christmas period.
