Chairman John Radford has revealed that frontman Calvin Andrew has left the club.

Mr Radford revealed the news at a fans’ forum in the Sandy Pate Sports Bar this evening, during which he answered a range of questions from supporters.

The 27-year-old, who made 16 appearances for us, will be fondly remembered for his goal in our memorable 1-0 win at arch-rivals Chesterfield in September.

Everyone at Mansfield Town would like to wish Andrew all the best of luck in his future career.

Meanwhile, Assistant Manager Adam Murray also praised the contribution of frontman Calvin Andrew, whose short-term contract with the club expired yesterday.

“Calvin has moved on,” said Murray. “His contract was up and the gaffer has decided not to renew that.

“He scored a really important goal against our neighbours, but we’re looking at freshening things up and bringing something else to the group now. We thank him for his input.”

In order news, it was revealed at a Q & A session last night by chairman John Radford that defender Ryan Tafazolli had recently signed a new 18 month contract.

Mansfield Town have released striker Calvin Andrew, but central defender Ryan Tafazolli has signed a new two-year deal (comment by Martin - the contract is until the end of next season)
and Stags are also hoping to reach agreement with Sheffield United to keep Darryl Westlake on loan for the rest of the season.

With the transfer window open, Stags are also hard at work trying to bring in new faces before Saturday’s home clash with League Two leaders Scunthorpe United, Murray confirming that former Forest and Villa striker Marlon Harewood and talented Sheffield United teenage defender Sean McGinty are on their hit list.

Andrew only scored one goal for the club, though that was the winner in the big local derby at Chesterfield (pictured), and assistant manager Adam Murray said: “Calvin’s contract was up and he will be moving on as the gaffer has decided not to renew it.

“He has done great for us and scored a really important goal against our neighbours. But we are looking at freshening things up and bringing someone into the group and we thank Calvin for his input.”

Tafazolli has impressed since returning to the defence and Murray said: “Ryan has more than deserved his contract extension.

“Everyone can see the potential he has got and over the last few months he has matured as a person and as a player.”
