Sky Sports understands a host of Championship clubs are weighing up bids for Mansfield Town star Matt Green.

The 25-year-old has been sensational for the Stags since joining from Oxford United in 2011, finishing on 29 goals last term - finishing only behind Jamie Vardy - who joined Leicester City for £1million.

Now Green could be set to follow Vardy, after impressing hugely in the last 12-months - although a reported presence of a release clause means they will not pocket anywhere near the same sort of fee which Fleetwood received for Vardy

Sky Sports understands up to a dozen Championship clubs are currently scouting Green - whilst clubs in League One and Two are also keeping tabs on his progress.

It is understood Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has made a personal check on the player, whilst Brighton, Derby and Nottingham Forest are also believed to have checked on him.

Mansfield are now braced to lose one of their prized assets and a move in January, if not before on loan, looks increasingly likely.
