Young striker Adam Somes has today had his contract with the club terminated by mutual consent.

Somes, who finished as top scorer in Mark Hemingray's youth team last term, has quit the club in order to pursue a new career in education and coaching in the United States.

Manager Paul Cox said: “Adam came in last week and had a chat with me. He has options to become a teacher and a coach, and he also wants to play football.”

“If this is the career he now wants to pursue then we don't want to stand in his way at all. Therefore, we wish him all the best of luck for the future.”

The 19-year-old made his only first team appearance for us in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round defeat at Fleetwood Town last season

From Ilkeston FC website... Tue Sep 04, 2012

Ilkeston FC last night suffered their third odd-goal defeat of the season when they went down 1-0 against Rushall Olympic but Kevin Wilson was quick to praise his young team for their spirited display.
The Robins were without no less than seven players who would have figured in the starting line-up and Wilson gave League debuts to Chris Jones and Ellis Storey at the back, Dion Chambers in midfield and Adam Somes up front.

Brown saw efforts blocked and then headed over for the visitors while striker Adam Somes, whom Ilkeston signed from Mansfield on Monday morning, flicked a header just too high from a Jack Watts cross on 19 minutes.

post on Stagsnet by Steve Hymas, former youth director at MTFC

I would imagine he is signing for Ilkeston and they will set up the coaching in the USA through their education programme.
I have asked him to join AFC Mansfield but Ilkeston is the best option for him at the moment.
Its obviously a shame there is no-one left at the club to put an arm around the big fella. He is very much a confidence player and scores goals for fun.He needs direction and no-one is around to give him that.

Good luck Adam with the future in anything you choose to do.
