ANTHONY Howell has hit back at the Mansfield Town boo boys by insisting: "Singling out individuals is not on."

The Stags' recent dip in form has seen a minority of the fans lay into players as they have left the pitch.

The latest example came at AFC Telford where Lindon Meikle came in for criticism after a 0-0 draw.

Midfielder Howell said: "There was a minority of fans giving out stick at Telford which in a way comes from their expectations

"They have travelled all the way down there and expected us to win. If you expect something and don't get it then you are always disappointed.

"I can't fault them being passionate, but the way a few of them went about it is not needed.

"People have a right to be disappointed or angry, but when it gets personal it is a bit too much.

"It's a team game and no one means to make mistakes.

"When fans are picking out individuals and shouting abuse at them it is not fair."

Louis Briscoe is scheduled to return to training today after an abductor injury and Howell is looking forward to seeing the winger back in action.

He said: "I think the team has missed him. He is the type of player who can nick a goal and get the three points for you."

Stags winger Adam Smith has returned to League Two outfit Aldershot on loan until January 7.

Smith, 26, made four starts and three substitute appearances in an impressive four weeks at The Shots last month, including a run out against Manchester United in the League Cup
