A stoppage-time equaliser from Iyseden Christie salvaged a point for Mansfield in a 2-2 draw with Notts County.

Christie looked like being the villain when he squandered a gilt-edged chance in the closing minutes, but his persistence paid off.

Mansfield deservedly went in front via a deflected shot from Liam Lawrence.

But County substitute Darren Caskey turned the game on its head, scoring one and making another.

Caskey's fine pass sent Marcel Cas to the by-line and his cross was bundled home by Richard Liburd.

Then Caskey curled a late free-kick into the top corner after Danny Allsopp had been brought down by Tony Vaughan.

Footymad.net:
A hugely controversial result left Mansfield Town still without a win at Meadow Lane since 1958, but how close they came.

The Stags, though bottom of the table, shook their hosts for long periods with the quality of their football and it was no more than they deserved when Liam Lawrence put them ahead shortly before half time.

Lawrence was Mansfield's best player throughout, creating chances with dangerous runs and accurate passes but on this occasion he was in County's penalty box to fire inside Stuart Garden's left hand upright.

The Magpies were below par throughout the first half and it was not until Darren Caskey was brought off the bench after 56 minutes that they began to find any sort of form.

Richard Liburd scrambled an equaliser for them just after the hour mark and as the game see-sawed it was anybody's guess as to what the result would be.

Then County substitute Danny Allsopp was brought down 22 yards from goal and Caskey produced one of his majestic free-kicks to rifle the ball into the top corner of the net beyond a helpless Kevin Pilkington.

Amazingly it was Caskey's first goal of the season.

But Mansfield were not finished and in stoppage time Iyseden Christie had three chances.

He was wide with one, had another blocked by Danny Stone and then poached the equaliser four minutes into stoppage time.

Magpies manager Billy Dearden - who used to be in charge at Mansfield - was livid and made his displeasure to referee Jeff Winter clear as he left the pitch. Not only was the game four minutes into overtime after three had been allowed, but Christie appeared yards off side.

It left County still having won only once in nine starts at Meadow Lane.

Mansfield boss Stuart Watkiss felt that the Stags had sufficient chances to have won all three points

Last gasp Stags rescue point in thrilling derby
AN Iyseden Christie equaliser over four minutes into injury time earned never-say-die Mansfield Town a 2-2 draw in a pulsating derby at Notts County this afternoon.
Stags' debutant Matthew Gadsby's long ball out of defence was inadvertently flicked on by County substitute Darren Caskey and Christie, looking several yards offside, raced clear to beat keeper Garden.
Ironically, just moments earlier Christie looked to have wasted the Stags' best chance of rescuing a deserved point.
Two minutes into injury time Wayne Corden's left wing cross was helped on by Colin Little and Christie, unmarked six yards from goal, blazed hopelessly high and wide.
But Christie, who might have scored another hat-trick to match his four-goal salvo a week earlier, made no mistake when given a second chance to send Stags' 3,500-strong travelling supporters wild with delight.
It was nothing more than the Stags deserved for another fine performance away from Field Mill.
They had taken the lead two minutes before half-time through Liam Lawrence's deflected drive after just shading the first half.
But then the Stags somehow contrived to miss a hatful of chances to secure a much needed victory that would have taken them off the bottom of the table.
Three minutes into the second half Jamie Clarke was denied by the keeper's legs when he looked a certain scorer.
Craig Disley headed over with just the keeper to beat and Little twice failed to get the better of Garden in one-on-one situations.
The Stags also had two strong penalty appeals turned down when first Little was clearly tripped by the keeper and Leroy Wiiliamson pushed in the back inside the area.
And the visitors looked to have been punished for their wasteful finishing when Richard Liburd bundled in a 63rd minute cross deflected off Tony Vaughan and then Caskey curled a delightful 20 yard free kick into the roof of the net five minutes from time.
But as the derby entered the fifth minute of injury time - after the referee had indicated he would be playing only three extra minutes - Christie struck the richly deserved equaliser.
