Stags wingman Meikle's international debut cancelled
chad.co.uk, Saturday 27 August 2011

FLYING Stags winger Lindon Meikle's international dream has been dashed - at least for now.

http://www.chad.co.uk/sport/football/mansfield-town-fc/stags_wingman_meikle_s_international_debut_cancelled_1_3719563

The summer signing had been called upto the England C squad in midweek as a reward for his early season promise - and last season's success in front of goal.

He was due to play for England against India at Dagenham at the start of September.

But late on Friday the FA confirmed that the match had been called off following the postponement of India/Pakistan's UK tour.

The India v Pakistan games, due to take place in Derby and Glasgow next month, were organised independently with the international fixture at Pride Park receiving FA clearance to be staged in this country.

A spokesman for The FA commented: “The knock on effect of the tour cancellation means that we have no choice but to postpone the England C fixture at Dagenham & Redbridge.”

Mansfield Town winger Lindon Meikle on achieving England C dream
chad.co.uk, Thursday 25 August 2011

FLYING winger Lindon Meikle has already achieved one his aims for the season - just two weeks into the new campaign.

http://www.chad.co.uk/sport/football/mansfield-town-fc/mansfield_town_winger_linddon_meikle_on_achieving_england_c_dream_1_3713840

The former Eastwood Town man, who is still coming to terms with life as a full-time footballer, set out on the mission of winning an England C cap.

And on Wednesday that dream became reality when Meikle was drafted into the national side for the fixture with India on 6th September at Dagenham and Redbridge.

Delighted Meikle said: “I was buzzing when I found out the news, it is going to be really exciting to put on the England shirt.

“Whether it is the full England team or the England C side it is still the same feeling and the same honour to represent your country.

“When I knew I was coming to Mansfield, getting an England C call up was one of my main aims.

“I had wanted to get called up last season, but it is obviously much harder when you re in a lower league. This means a lot to me.”

The call up is the perfect recognition for Meikle, who has made a big impact in his brief time at Field Mill.

“I am still getting used to things at this level and full-time training,”added Meikle.

“Things were a bit strange at first because I did not know any of the other players, but everyone has been really good with each other and there is an excellent spirit in the camp

“At the moment I still have a bit of an injury so I am not fully fit.

“I scored goals for Eastwood and that is what I want to do for Mansfield Town.

“I'm happy with how things are going at the moment, but I still think there is more to come.”

Stags winger Meikle: England call will spur me on
Nottingham Post, Friday, August 26, 2011

LINDON Meikle believes he can get even better for Mansfield Town after being chosen for England C – and insists the call-up will not go to his head.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/story-13209145-detail/story.html

The tricky winger got the nod from Paul Fairclough – boss of the national under-23 non-league side – after just two senior outings for the Stags.

Meikle will meet up with the squad for a game against India at Dagenham and Redbridge on September 6.

He is keen to go into that game in tip-top form having struggled with a foot injury.

His next chance to impress is likely to come in tomorrow's home clash with Kettering at Field Mill.

"I'm absolutely buzzing about the call-up and I was surprised to get picked this soon, even though I had targeted it when I made the move to Mansfield," said Meikle.

"When I heard it was India I was hoping I might get to play there, but then I found out it was Dagenham! But then I will play anywhere to wear the shirt.

"I'm still struggling a bit so I think there is plenty more to come from me. I'm still finding my way in full-time training and this can only help my confidence.

"But I have to put the England thing to the back of my mind until it comes around.

"We have some important games coming up and we have to start winning, scoring goals and stop losing them.

"Hopefully the game against Kettering this weekend will be the turning point."

Meikle has found it a noticeable step up in standard since moving from Eastwood in the division below.

He said: "You need a bit more at this level, where some teams can pass you off the park."
