HALF TIME FROM FIELD MILL

MANSFIELD TOWN 0
BARNSLEY 0

THE Reds went in goalless at the break following a tough opening half at Field Mill.

It almost got off to the perfect start for Mark Smith's side when Robbie Williams glanced Nicky Wroe's free kick inches wide of the target with just three minutes on the clock.

Tom Baker then went close on 17 minutes after a neat turn on the edge of the area before Mark Carter tested Marc Shackleton with a well-struck free kick from all of 35 yards.

Mansfield's physical presence all over the pitch caused the Reds no end of problems throughout the half and the Stags should have been in front on the half hour mark when livewire winger Dean Hankey capitalised on a slip by Tom Harban to run in on goal. It took an excellent block by Ryan Laight to deny the youngster.

The Reds had a decent shout for a penalty turned down on 32 minutes when the lumbering Jake Buxton tripped Baker in the area but the referee waved away the striker's appeals.

The opening half ended on a sour note for the visitors when Sean Greaves was shown a yellow card for a foul on Peter Ryalls.
