£3,000 has been donated towards Paul's salary by The 12th Stag, a supporters fund which raises money to put towards the manager's playing budget.

Connor, 31, has spent his entire career in the Football League, most notably at Rochdale where he scored an average of one goal in every three matches. The Spotland outfit paid £150,000 for his services in 2001 before he was transferred to Swansea City for £35,000 three years later. Spells at Leyton Orient, Cheltenham and Lincoln City followed.

The 6 ft 2 in striker said: "It's great that The 12th Stag have helped contribute to bring players in - it's fantastic work from everyone involved and it's nice to think that the fans want you here."

Paul Nyland (pictured) of the 12th Stag told http://www.mansfieldtown.net: "We are very excited to be able to contribute to Paul Connor's wages, especially at such an early stage after The 12th Stag's creation.

"May this be the first of many signings that The 12th Stag can help contribute to. Big thanks must go to the fans who have added money to the fund and also to the club for allowing us to be a part of this new signing.

"Buckets will be available at Field Mill to add to the 12th Stag fund for the first game of the season at home to Forest Green," he added.

Interim Chairman Andy Saunders said: "We are very grateful to The 12th Stag for this fantastic contribution to Paul Connor's wages. They are a very valuable supporters group, as are all our supporters' associations."

Said David Holdsworth: "The 12th Stag is a great benefit to us. We are extremely grateful for their support. It is a generous way of supporting your football club and fans know where their contribution is going - which is very important."

Mansfield Town Fans Pay For Ex-Imp
http://www.theimp.lincolnfans.co.uk/news/2011_mansfield_fans_pay_for_paul_connor.shtml?

28th July 2010

Former Lincoln City FC striker Paul Connor has a new club today and it is all thanks to a group of supporters.

Connor has signed for Mansfield Town, which is quite a surprise as he had been on trial with Kidderminster Harriers, who were keen to sign him on a permanent basis. Instead, Connor joins Mansfield after a fund-raising campaign called the 12thStags collected enough money to pay £3,000 towards his wages.

Mansfield manager Dean (edit - should say David) Holdsworth is particular pleased with campaign and said: "It is a generous way of supporting your football club and fans know where their contribution is going - which is very important."

Connor was released by Lincoln City in May after failing to score in 17 appearances for The Imps. He suffered bad luck regarding injuries that saw him miss several months of the season which failed to help his cause of scoring goals. He was also hindered by playing mainly in a poor Lincoln City that spent many matches struggling to create chances for strikers.

He has signed a one year contract with Mansfield of the Conference National division.
