Goalkeeper Gamble joins Mansfield
BBC.co.uk, 7 Aug 08
Mansfield Town have signed Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paddy Gamble on loan until Christmas.

The 19-year-old has yet to appear in the Reds' first team since coming through the academy.

Gamble, who has been on trial with the Stags, spent last season on loan with Blue Square North's Stalybridge Celtic.

Mansfield manager Billy McEwan told BBC Radio Nottingham: "He got a lot of experience last season and this is the next part of his development."

"This is a chance for him and hopefully he's going to take it," he added.

Stags take Forest keeper on loan

Mansfield have secured their second signing is as many days after goalkeeper Paddy Gamble agreed to join from Forest on a half-season loan.

With Jason White out with a knee injury, finding another shot stopper has been a top priority for manager Billy McEwan.

Gamble - who spent much of last season on loan at Stalybridge Celtic - has featured for the Stags in several pre-season games.

The 19-year-old missed out through illness in the Stags' 3-0 defeat at Boston last Saturday.

But with emergency replacement Jamie Annerson from Sheffield United unavailable for loan, McEwan is thrilled to have secured the services of Gamble.

The player will stay until Christmas initially but the deal could later be extended if both clubs wish.

"This gives Paddy the chance to go through the next part of his development," said McEwan.

"I had him at my previous club (York) when he was younger. He is a big boy and will give us presence.

"Hopefully it will benefit Forest as well as us."

French left-back Alex Jeanin joined the Stags yesterday after being released by Oxford last season.
