No announcement on new Stags boss until next week
CHAD.co.uk, 14Mar08
THE Stags will not make an announcement on a permanent replacement for manager Billy Dearden until Monday at the earliest, the club confirmed today.
But chief executive Stephen Booth told Chad on Friday that a new manager would definitely be in place before the busy Easter programme - and hopefully a new player or two as well.

He said: "Interviews are continuing today (Friday), then I will make a decision over the weekend.

"But I don't expect an announcement until Monday at the earliest."

He declined to state how many candidates were being interviewed for the post - created a week ago when manager Dearden left the club after the 4-0 home defeat by Rochdale.

But when asked if the result and performance at Bradford tomorrow under caretaker boss Paul Holland would have a bearing, he replied: "It must do.

"Let's hope what is happening on the training pitch can be translated onto the pitch tomorrow."

It is still believed that the front runners for the post are former Derby County coach Billy McEwan, a previous managerial target for the club, and Holland.

Chad spoke to McEwan, who revealed his interest in the vacancy to Chad on Monday, again on Thursday and he confirmed that he was still interested in the job.

Mr Booth also confirmed Chad's earlier report that there would be no new signings today, but remained optimistic that loan players would be signed next week to aid the relegation fight.

Mr Booth added: "The good things is that we have a free week next week to prepare for a busy Easter and April, with plenty of matches against fellow strugglers."
