Thorpe delighted with youth success

Under-18s manager Neil Thorpe was overjoyed to see his side open 2006 with a victory on Friday afternoon.

Goals from Stuart King and Jamie Stevens sealed a 2-1 comeback victory over Mansfield Town, a result that drew United level on points with their opponents in the Youth Alliance table.

The Pilgrims trailed 1-0 at half-time, but Thorpe was delighted with the response from his players. He told bufc.co.uk: “We didn't deserve to be losing at half-time and I told the lads at the break that they could still go on and win the match.

“We showed real belief in the second half and I was pleased with the way the lads responded. Kingy scored an absolute blinder for our equaliser and then Jamie Stevens notched our second, which was a goal right off the training ground.

“There were plenty of positives from the match and I was pleased with the effort and commitment shown by all the lads. Richard Chinn did well on his first start since his injury lay-off, while I felt the three trialists all performed well credit.

“All-in-all, it was a pleasing afternoon.”
