FREE AGENT Paul Tait is to hold talks with both Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town as he searches for a new club.
Tait was released by Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season following The Railwaymen's relegation from the First Division.
The 28-year-old striker scored six goals in 65 appearances for the club during three years at Gresty Road, although over half were as a substitute.
Since leaving Crewe, Tait has attracted the interest of several clubs including Port Vale.
However, it is Rovers and Mansfield who are leading the chase with the two clubs due to meet the former Everton trainee later this week.
Third Division Rovers have discussions planned with Tait for Thursday with Ray Graydon's outfit favourites to land the striker.
Mansfield boss Stuart Watkiss is expected to meet Tait on Friday in a bid to persuade him Field Mill should be his next destination.
Meanwhile, The Stags are also due to hold talks with Grimsby Town's out of contract striker Bradley Allen.
The experienced hot shot is keen to stay with The Mariners but is waiting to see what financial package they can offer.
Allen has already spurned the advances of Bristol Rovers and will be anxious to see what Mansfield can put on the table.
