YOUTH TEAM BEATEN AT CHESTER
20th September 2004 11:42

Chester City Youth 3 Stags Youth 2
Arnold 2 (1 pen)

Stagsnet report by John Street

Stags Youth Team went down at Chester on Saturday morning.

Following on from last week's convincing victory at Notts County, Stags started poorly and were 2 - 0 down within 25 minutes.

Left Back Curle was caught in possession when he was the last man in defence and Chester seized the opportunity to take the lead. Minutes later the Stags goalie let a free kick fly off the surface and zip past him into the net for a 2 - 0 lead.

Macintosh rallied his Stags defence and they started to tighten things up a little from then on. Chances were created for Heron and Lonsdale, by the Stags midfield, Sleath and Lloyd threading balls through for the strikers.

The Stags eventually got back into the game when Sleath played Arnold through on goal, his initial shot hit the post but came back straight to his feet and allowed him to slot home.

2 - 1 down at the break and Stags back on top, and things were to get better in the second half initially, Jones and Lloyd played a series of one-twos down the right hand side, and the full back was eventually up-ended in the box for a penalty. Arnold stroked home for 2 - 2.

Stags had fought back and were now in total control, chances were created for Heron and Lonsdale but they could not find the goal to seal the victory, and as often happens in these situations the opposition go down the other end and score, it was the same this time with minutes to spare and Stags pushing for a winner the reverse occured.

2 Bookings for Stags, Rennals and Lloyd (both for over zealous tackles)

Team: Langford, Jones, Macintosh, Rennals, Curle, Arnold, Lloyd, Hunt, Sleath, Heron, Lonsdale
