LOVE OF BOOKS IS THE GOAL
Evening Post, 10 December 2003 Mansfield Town players have scored a hit with children by encouraging them to read books. The stars have been supporting the BBC Big Read event. It was part of the Stags Community Trust's work, where schoolchildren visit Field Mill to take part in various projects. Stags assistant boss John Gannon joined pupils from Dalestorth Primary School to talk about the books he liked to read when he was younger and those he now reads to his own children. The youngsters wrote reviews of books they enjoyed before doing some work about War Game, a book based on a football match played on Christmas Day between British and German troops during the First World War. A spokesman for the club said: "Everybody at Mansfield Town realises how important it is to read and to be positive role models for reading." |
