GREENACRE MAY NOT LEAVE
22nd April 2002 12:09

Chris Greenacre says he could yet be at Field Mill next season after The Stags secured promotion to the Second Division on Saturday.
The 23-year-old striker, whose 28 goals have made him the Third Division's top scorer this season, was widely expected to leave Field Mill on a Bosman transfer this summer - with Bradford City and Nottingham Forest among the favourites to land him.
But, after tasting promotion for the first time in his career following the 2-0 win over Carlisle, Greenacre said: "I have said all along that if we went up I would like to sit down and talk about a new deal.
"It is not necessarily true I am leaving Mansfield. Saturday was the best ever feeling I've had in football and I want to thank the fans for their support - they were absolutely brilliant and we are very grateful to them."
Manager Stuart Watkiss added: "I will sit down with the chairman this week and put together a deal for Chris.
"But only time will tell if it's good enough to keep him here as there are bound to be a lot of clubs interested in him this summer."
