TWO second half goals sank unlucky Macclesfield after Junior Mendes netting against the run of play with a half volley from the six yard line on 51 minutes.

Karl Munroe then upended the same livewire forward to allow Liam Lawrence to score from the spot.

It was hard on Macclesfield, who had seen Matthew Titpon crash a fierce drive against the foot of the post moments after the break.

Macclesfield had carried a 2-1 lead into the break, cancelling out Dave Artell's seventh minute free header with a Tipton free kick that arrowed into the far corner and John Miles' clinical finish.

They should have grabbed an equaliser at the death, Martin Carruthers only 10 yards out scuffing a free hit before Danny Whitaker saw a 25 yard drive tipped over the bar.
