Mansfield 2-1 Man City

Kevin Keegan's Man City were handed a shock pre-season friendly defeat by Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
David Seaman and Michael Tarnat both made their debuts for City, who hope to wrap up the signing of Trevor Sinclair from West Ham on Monday.

Seaman - given a great reception by City fans packed into the Quarry Lane end - was beaten after 32 minutes by Colin Larkin's spectacular volley from 12 yards.

The equaliser came after 39 minutes when Nicolas Anelka scored from the spot after Robbie Fowler went to ground following a challenge from Bobby Hassell.

City fielded a new team at the start of the second half with Seaman being replaced by Kevin Ellegaard.

They fell behind for the second time in the game after 57 minutes when Wayne Corden grabbed the winner from the penalty spot.

One consolation for Keegan was that long-term injury victims Danny Tiatto and Christian Negouai both played a part in the game.

However, striker Paulo Wanchope has been ruled out of City's pre-season tour to Denmark after suffering another injury setback.

He played 43 minutes of the second half before going off with a hamstring problem after missing the whole of last season with knee and shoulder injuries.

Keegan revealed that the Costa Rican could face another six weeks out of action.

"Wanchope has done his hamstring. He felt something go and will now miss the tour," he said.

"It could well be that he could miss both games against TNS (in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round) as well as the friendly against Barcelona," Keegan added.

Trevor Sinclair is expected to have a medical on Monday before Manchester City leave for a pre-season tour of Denmark.

Kevin Keegan will be keen to have the England midfielder on board after seeing his side go down to Third Division side Mansfield in a friendly.

Sinclair is signing a four-year deal after a £2.5million fee was agreed with West Ham.

He is poised to become Keegan's third signing of the summer following goalkeeper David Seaman and Michael Tarnat, who both made their debuts at Field Mill.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper was beaten after 32 minutes by Colin Larkin's spectacular volley from 12 yards. The Dundalk-born striker savoured the moment in front of nearly 7,000 fans.

After 564 matches for Arsenal, Seaman was given a great reception by the City supporters packed into the Quarry Lane end behind him.

But the England veteran almost dug a hole for himself after 19 minutes when he raced out fully 35 yards to get in a tackle on a startled Liam Lawrence - and just about got away with it.

Seaman then spilled a shot from Lee Williamson in the 25th minute but recovered to smother the rebound as Junior Mendes made minimal contact.
