Striker completes permanent move from Forest

Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of striker Will Swan on a permanent basis from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at the Stags, was the club’s top goalscorer in 2022/23, netting ten goals.

The Mansfield-born forward has signed a three-year deal with the option of a further year.

On the Stags’ first signing ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough said: “It’s exciting news to sign Will permanently from Nottingham Forest.

“We’ve been delighted with what we’ve seen from him during the past nine months.

“The owners, John and Carolyn, along with our chief executive, David Sharpe, have been working very hard in the last few weeks to secure this transfer.

“He fits the bill of a young striker with bags of potential and complements our other forward players.

“We look forward to seeing more goals from Will in the coming seasons.”

The signing will be ratified from the opening day of the summer transfer window, subject to EFL approval.

Speaking to iFollow Stags at RH Academy, Clough said:

Will Swan was Stags’ top scorer last campaign (10 goals) and last week put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the option of a further season in a permanent transfer form Nottingham Forest.

“[Talks had been in the offing] since the end of the season really,” said Nigel speaking about Swan’s transfer.

“Between Forest and the owners and David they worked very hard to agree a deal.

“There’s not many 22-year-old strikers out there with the potential that Will’s got and, of course, the great advantage is that we’ve seen him. We’ve worked with him for nine months.

“Usually when you sign that sort of player, you’re looking at him in under-23 football or at another club.

“To have seen him first-hand, and the supporters have, I think everybody realises the potential that he’s got.

“It was his first real ‘proper’ loan and I think he grew into the season and grew over the season.

“Even when he came back from injury, that two or three months he was out, he matured physically and looked as good and as strong when he came back towards the end of the season.

“It’s an exciting one [signing] for everybody to have him permanently and just hopefully stay fit and he’s proved he can score goals.

“He only started fourteen games and he got ten goals. He’s going to be a great asset.”

SWAN AGREES PERMANENT MOVE TO MANSFIELD

Nottingham Forest can confirm the permanent transfer of Will Swan to Mansfield Town for an undisclosed fee.

The deal will be effective from the summer transfer window open date.

Swan, 22, enjoyed a positive loan spell with the Stags this season, scoring nine goals in 33 appearances for Nigel Clough’s side as they narrowly missed out on a play-off place in Sky Bet League Two.

The academy graduate made two first-team appearances for Forest in total, making his professional debut against Swansea City in November 2020.

Forest wishes Will every success for the future.
